Silas had just taken over the Hayes Corporation back then. Their profits were tanking, the pressure was immense, and he was desperate enough to try anything. Walter Vane read a chart for him and told him that if he married a very specific person, his business would boom. So, he entered his first marriage."
Finn's hand froze on the roll of gauze.
"You know what happened after that. The Hayes Corporation turned their losses into profits that exact same year, and they've been climbing straight to the top ever since."
Grant's voice was completely detached, like he was recounting a story that had nothing to do with him. "He's superstitious, but he doesn't worship ghosts or gods. He worships results. Whoever can help him get what he wants is who he puts his faith in."
Finn set the gauze down, deep in thought.
"This Walter Vane... is he still around?"
Grant scrolled through his contact list.
"I heard he moved to Thailand a few years ago. I'm not sure how he's doing now; he's a bit older than me."
"Dad, could you forward his contact info to me?" Finn asked.
Grant shot him a puzzled look.
"Don't tell me you're getting into all this mystical nonsense now too."
Finn offered a faint smile.
"I just want Fletcher Corporation to succeed, too."
Grant gave him an affectionate, fatherly look.
"You little punk. Honestly, though, I'm not worried you'll end up like Silas." He paused. "You're far too driven by your heart. You could never be as cold as him."
After finishing his conversation with his father, Finn stepped out of the living room and stood in the courtyard.
The night wind swept over him, making him feel cold to his very core.
If Silas had chosen his first wife purely for her astrological chart, then why did he choose Sienna?
Was it because he actually cared for her, or simply because she was a lucky charm for his ambitions?
He remembered the look on Sienna's face when she talked about Silas—the way she had said, 'He treats me very well.'
Sienna was entirely too innocent.
She mistook grand gestures for affection, for genuine cherishing, for the true love a man should have for a woman.
Finn had no idea how to make her see the truth.
Given his current standing with her, anything he said would just look like a pathetic attempt to sabotage her new relationship.
His phone buzzed with a notification.
He glanced at the screen.
Walter Vane had accepted his friend request.
