"There's no need."
Sienna dropped those words coldly and brushed past him.
She walked quickly, practically fleeing, as if someone were chasing her.
All she wanted was to escape this suffocating place as fast as possible.
Back in her office, she shut the door and slumped into her chair, taking a long time to steady her racing heart.
Sienna took a deep breath, trying to pull herself together.
She opened the folder for her multi-center research project. The screen was densely packed with data and annotations, and every single page bore the unmistakable mark of Silas's influence.
It was only then she realized just how much she had unknowingly benefited from Silas's favors.
It was so much that she didn't even have the ground to stand on to express her frustrations.
She had always desperately wanted to complete this research, but suddenly, the entire project felt utterly meaningless.
Achieving success through someone else's power instead of her own merit made the accomplishment feel entirely hollow.
Suddenly, a knock sounded at the door.
Sienna instinctively sat up straight.
Caspar walked in, carrying a signature orange Hermès gift box.
"Dr. Sterling, Mr. Hayes asked me to bring these to you. There's a handbag, a silk scarf, and a necklace."
He set the extravagant box on her desk, then pulled out a sleek access card and two sets of keys.
"Mr. Hayes has to fly out of town for a conference this week, so he won't be able to spend time with you. He didn't want you to feel neglected, so this is his way of making it up to you. The car and the apartment are fully ready. You can drive it or stay there whenever you like."
Sienna glanced at the items on the desk, not touching a single one.
"Take them back. I don't need any of this."
Caspar blinked in surprise.
"Dr. Sterling, it might be best if you told Mr. Hayes that yourself. He's currently waiting for you in the executive dining room."
Sienna stood up.
"Caspar, please let Mr. Hayes know he doesn't need to wait for me. I'm not feeling well today. I apologize."
Caspar quickly pasted on his flawless, professional smile, acting as if her rejection didn't phase him in the slightest.
