"They broke up a long time ago." Finn shot Lance a dry look. "Your intel is seriously lagging."
The elevator doors glided open.
Finn stepped out without another word.
Lance stood in the elevator, staring at his friend's retreating back.
No wonder. The man had been in a suspiciously good mood lately.
It was a stark contrast to his usual 'dead inside' persona.
"Hey, wait up! Don't forget the dinner at the Beaumont estate tonight," Lance called out, rushing to catch up.
7:00 PM.
The Beaumont Estate.
The sprawling, neo-traditional manor sat halfway up the western hills. Getting to the main house required driving through three heavily guarded courtyards.
Antique stone drums guarded the entrance, while a custom Italian crystal chandelier dominated the main hall, though its brilliance was intentionally muted by priceless historical calligraphy lining the walls.
It was an intimate gathering tonight, strictly for old family friends.
Grant Fletcher was seated near the head of the table, making casual conversation with Arthur Beaumont.
Lance and his father sat on the opposite side.
Arthur Beaumont had three sons and only one daughter, Sasha, who had been spoiled rotten since birth.
Tonight, she wore a stunning champagne slip dress, her hair cascading in loose waves. She exuded an aura of effortless elegance.
When she saw Finn walk in, a soft smile graced her lips. She didn't rush over, waiting until he was close to speak.
"Finn, you made it." Her tone was completely natural, but she had strategically positioned herself right in his path.
During dinner, Finn was entirely distracted.
He kept his phone face-up on the table, barely picking at his food with his fork.
Arthur Beaumont cast a glance at Finn, then at Sasha, before chuckling and turning to Grant Fletcher.
"The kids are getting older. I think—"
Grant knew exactly where this was going and smoothly chimed in.
"Finn, you and Sasha have known each other for years. You understand each other's roots. You young people should spend more time together."
"Dad," Finn interrupted, setting his fork down. His tone was deadpan. "I've always seen Sasha as a sister. She's exceptional, and if I ever meet someone worthy of her, I'll definitely set them up. I wouldn't want her settling for less."
