Zoe rode back to the Kendall estate with Garrett. On the way, she received a call from Mrs. Winters.
She could guess the woman's agenda and easily could have ignored it, but she couldn't resist hearing the confirmation of Terrence's fate.
“You heartless wretch! Are you really that eager to see your own stepfather rot in prison? I raised you for all those years, and now he's locked up for a decade! How am I supposed to survive?”
Mrs. Winters sobbed hysterically on the other end of the line. Having heard exactly what she needed to know, Zoe hung up without a single word.
When the phone rang again, she simply ignored it.
With Terrence's situation handled, Zoe found herself in an excellent mood.
Over the following days, she poured all her energy into her current project and Lily's education.
Lily had already made impressive progress learning to wrestle under her mother's guidance.
With another baby on the way, Zoe couldn't make overly strenuous movements, but teaching a four-year-old didn't require too much physical exertion.
The little girl was tiny, but she learned with fierce determination. After a couple of months, she had already mastered the basic forms.
The joint project between Easton and Sterling Group proceeded on schedule. Hayden and Sienna frequently visited Sterling's offices.
However, Hayden seemed to intentionally avoid Zoe. Whenever she was scheduled to be involved, he conveniently made himself scarce.
Having no desire to interact with him either, Zoe slowly began phasing herself out of the core project team.
She figured Hayden had no idea she had moved out of their shared home, and even if he did, he wouldn't care.
Sienna remained joined at the hip with Hayden, their intimacy fully on display. To outsiders, and even to Sterling's employees, they were practically an established couple.
On the day of the final alignment meeting between Easton and Sterling, Sienna showed up alone.
Beatrice's network was the absolute pinnacle of high society. Offending anyone else in the Thorne family could be smoothed over if Beatrice intervened, but offending Beatrice meant total social execution.
Instead of leaving, Sienna sat down right across from Zoe.
“I can convince Hayden to carve out some time every day to spend with you and Lily. In return, you talk to Grandmother Beatrice and get my dad out. I'm giving you a way out, Zoe.”
Zoe finally set her pen down, a mocking smile playing on her beautiful features.
She rubbed her temples lightly. “Does Hayden know you're selling him?”
Sienna's expression faltered, her gaze turning dark.
“I'm trying to help you. I know he hasn't cared about you or your daughter for the past five years, let alone wanted to take responsibility. But he listens to me. If you beg Grandmother Beatrice or write a letter of forgiveness for my dad, Hayden will do whatever I ask.”
Zoe looked at her as if she had just heard the most ridiculous joke on earth. Flicking a stack of documents on her desk, her face filled with pure disdain. “Ms. Winters, you're in the wrong place to act like a pimp. If you think Hayden is worth such a high asking price, you should take him to a nightclub and check the going rate.”
