Hearing that Zoe wanted to treat her to dinner, Beatrice's mood instantly soared.
Had she completely misunderstood the situation, or was Colin just deaf? She had placed him by Hayden's side, and his intel was completely botched!
But her joy was quickly followed by suspicion, and her face fell again. "Is she inviting me alone, or are the two of you hosting this together?"
She needed to clarify this. If Zoe was hosting alone, it meant the young couple was still at odds.
Hayden's gaze drifted lazily to the pastries he had bought.
Beatrice didn't touch them, her sharp eyes locked onto her eldest grandson. "Well?"
Snapping out of his brief distraction, he replied, "Together, of course."
Only then did Beatrice break into a bright smile and finally take a bite of the pastry.
After leaving the study, Hayden called Sienna. "It's set. Grandview Gardens this weekend. I'll come pick you up."
Sienna was overjoyed. It seemed Beatrice was genuinely starting to accept her and her family.
Perhaps the old lady had already heard about Zoe being adopted by the Kendalls. Zoe had freeloaded off the Thorne family for five years, only to pledge loyalty to someone else. And to think Beatrice had even gifted her a Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Sienna thought Zoe was no better than a backstabbing parasite.
"What does Grandmother like to eat? I'll have the staff prepare it."
"As long as it's not overly spicy or eccentric, she's not picky," Hayden replied casually.
This only reinforced Sienna's belief that Beatrice was finally treating them like family. Realizing her status in Beatrice's eyes was elevating, she almost felt like she owed Zoe a thank you.
"Grandview Gardens this weekend. Make sure you bring Lily and come early. Colin mentioned you joined the Kendall boy's company and have been run off your feet. Honestly, what's wrong with working for our own family's company? At least it wouldn't be so exhausting."
Beatrice genuinely cared for Zoe. Throughout her five-year marriage, Zoe had loved Hayden with absolute, devastating devotion. She had never uttered a single complaint to Beatrice, nor had she ever asked for any favors from the formidable matriarch who controlled the Thorne family.
Even though everyone in elite circles knew about Zoe's desperate love for Hayden and treated it like a running joke, Beatrice saw it differently. She understood that youthful love could be like a volcano, burning so fiercely it consumed everything in its path. Beatrice knew she hadn't possessed that kind of selfless dedication even in her own youth.
The girl had simply sacrificed too much of herself. And her idiot grandson was completely blind, discarding a priceless treasure to cling to a weed like Sienna.
On the other end of the line, Zoe smiled serenely. "Grandmother, I have the freedom to spread my wings here without all the corporate restrictions. Don't worry, I'm not tired. I'll definitely bring Lily and arrive early this weekend."
She had considered asking if Hayden and Sienna would be there. If they were, she would have politely declined. They weren't from the same world; seeing them would only ruin her appetite.
