It wasn't until days later that Zoe finally noticed the video message from Hayden sitting in her inbox.
Shot from a top-down angle, it showed a pile of something burning, accompanied by a hostile caption.
Love?
Sickening.
Zoe deleted the message without a second thought.
He hadn't gotten enough of playing the devoted saint with Sienna, so he came here to throw a tantrum when things didn't go his way.
What did love even mean to him?
She found it absolutely laughable.
If she had ever truly loved Hayden...
It was only a love that existed in other people's gossip.
As for her? She searched her own soul.
And her soul told her the truth.
Nothing.
There wasn't a single shred of affection left for him.
When a man like Hayden got high on his own vanity, that was what was truly sickening.
She didn't know what he was trying to achieve with that video.
Was he looking for a fight?
She wasn't going to waste her breath on someone who meant nothing to her.
Wasn't it infinitely better to save her energy for discussing research, development, and the company's future?
Meanwhile, after sending the text, Hayden didn't even bother checking if Zoe replied.
In his mind, by dragging Garrett into their marriage to spark jealousy and competition, she had permanently demoted herself to absolute insignificance.
He was a CEO. Aside from his ties to Easton Group, he had tens of thousands of employees at Thorne Corporation relying on his strategic vision to feed their families.
Romantic drama was the thing he despised most. It was entirely beneath him.
...
Sterling Group.
Zoe and Garrett had been buried in work lately.
Garrett's phone was ringing off the hook. Ever since Zoe debuted The Empathy AI Pro at the tech expo, the project had become the industry's hottest commodity. Corporate titans were swarming them, desperately vying for a partnership.
Burning bridges before she even crossed themβher lack of character was beyond salvation.
Garrett's assistant knocked on the door.
"Mr. Montgomery from Montgomery Enterprises is here."
Zoe paused at Ethan Montgomery's name. Garrett offered a reassuring look.
"Don't worry. He's just here to pitch a partnership for The Empathy AI Pro."
He knew she might have reservations.
"He's Hayden's friend. If it makes you uncomfortable, we don't have to work with him."
Zoe smiled. "We already took on Easton Group's projects. Montgomery Enterprises is a massive conglomerate here, and their overseas market share is even bigger. There's no reason to mix business with personal feelings."
She actually didn't mind Hayden's inner circle.
Quentin Muir, Ethan Montgomery, and Ian Varley had never bullied her over Hayden's attachment to Sienna.
If anything, she always felt they harbored a slight sympathy for her.
It was just hilarious how Ethan and Ian constantly tried to play matchmaker between her and Hayden.
Anyone with eyes could see Sienna was the love of Hayden's life. He detested Zoe so much that the hatred bled onto their own daughter. Why would anyone try to salvage a relationship like that?
