His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 189

Unfortunately for him, he ended up in jail while Jordan walked away scot-free. It remained a sore spot for Wayne.

Seeing Annika’s silence, Wayne continued, "I was drunk driving. The woman I injured… it was her."

After a moment of contemplation, Annika asked, "Wayne, did you find any connection between her and my father?"

Wayne looked surprised. "Your father? You mean… Mr. Sargent?"

Seeing Annika's grave expression, he seemed to understand and quickly replied, "I'll go check again."

About ten minutes later, Wayne re-entered Annika's office. "This is explosive, Ms. Sargent. I can't believe even a man like your father would…"

Seeing Annika's pale face, he swallowed the word 'stumble.'

Annika took the new file from Wayne containing information about her father and Lydia. When her eyes fell on a property deed with the name 'Marcus Sargent' on it, she froze, her voice trembling. "I never knew my father owned this building."

Wayne replied, "Of course you didn't. Mr. Sargent bought it for Lydia privately. Rumor has it, he even promised her a lavish wedding. But then, the Sargent Group ran into trouble. Before that happened, Lydia even worked in the finance department for a month. There are whispers that she was the one who emptied the company's accounts. Ms. Sargent, your father fell for her charms!"

It was the oldest story in the book. And Marcus had been no exception.

The news hit Annika like a bolt of lightning, leaving her stunned and disoriented. In her mind, her father had always been a towering, noble figure. Now, that image had completely crumbled.

The hand holding the cigarette wouldn't stop shaking. She quickly finished it, stubbed it out, and carelessly tossed it onto the desk.

Just as Annika walked out of the Sargent Group building, she heard two short honks from across the street. She looked up. Through the half-open window of a black Cayenne, she saw Conrad's refined face. He had changed into a formal suit, looking even more polished and proper. He was so striking that he drew the gazes of countless women on the street.

Their eyes met for a brief moment before Annika looked away. Just then, Harvey pulled the car around. She got in, and the car sped away.

Conrad watched the vehicle disappear, his hands gripping the steering wheel so tightly his veins bulged. The distant, cold look Annika had just given him felt like a needle to the heart.

He let out a self-mocking laugh. He had practically been begging to be slapped in the face. His cheeks burned with the sting of it.
