His Regret Arrived Three Days Late novel Chapter 187

When she heard the front door close, Annika emerged from the bathroom to see Conrad changing into a fresh set of clothes, completely unconcerned by her presence. The sight of his powerful physique and well-defined abs made her blush again.

"C-couldn't you change in the bathroom?" she stammered.

Conrad rolled his eyes at her. "Is there any part of me you haven’t touched? Any part of you I haven’t marked? Stop being so dramatic."

His words made Annika’s blood boil as images of their tangled bodies from the night before flooded her mind.

Dressed and with his tie knotted, Conrad pulled Annika out of the hotel.

"Are you taking me to work?" Annika asked as soon as they were in the car.

Conrad started the engine. "To the marriage registry. We're getting remarried."

The word 'remarrying' terrified Annika. She grabbed his sleeve, her expression serious. "Conrad, this isn't something to joke about. We need to think this through carefully."

Annika's repeated refusals finally wore out Conrad's patience. He frowned, annoyed. "Annika, rather than sleeping together in this ambiguous way, let's make it official. If something were to happen, half of my assets would be yours. Besides, Monroe needs a complete family to grow up in."

Conrad's words were framed as a suggestion, but they were a decision he had already made for her.

The mention of Monroe made Annika hesitate. What mother didn't want a complete home for her child?

But she was still torn and uncertain. After a moment of silence, she finally said, "You don't like me. If we remarry just for the child, it's not fair to him."

"I like you," he repeated simply.

"How much?" Annika couldn't stop herself; the words were out before she could think.

In response to her question, Conrad leaned in and nipped her lip again. He thought for a moment. "Annika, I want to see you and Monroe the moment I get off work. I want to raise him with you. It might not be love yet, but I'll work on it. I'll work on loving you and building our home together."

Though a little disappointed, a part of Annika felt a surge of happiness at his confession. A smile touched her eyes, and her joy was so infectious that Conrad smiled too. He floored the accelerator, and the car sped toward the marriage registry.

But it was closed for the weekend. Conrad and Annika agreed to go the next day, and he dropped her off at the Sargent Group.

Just as she got out of the car, her phone buzzed with a message from an anonymous number. She looked down and a single line of text filled her screen: “Want to know how your father died?”
