He Waited She Wilted (Ottilie and Yorath) novel Chapter 59

Just as everyone was relishing the sight of Yorath's meticulous plan crashing and burning, Yorath slowly raised his hand.

"I cast my vote for Ms. Sewell."

He was an attendee, which meant he had a right to vote.

Huxley let out a barking laugh. "You're still one vote short! Why don't you try asking the heavens for a vote, Ms. Sewell?"

Ottilie offered a shy, polite smile. "Thank you for the suggestion, Mr. Tarrant. I think I'll do just that."

She slowly raised her own hand. "I cast a vote for myself."

The room fell dead silent.

A moment later, somebody snorted in derision.

"Every year brings new absurdities, but today takes the cake! She's voting for herself? Hahaha! Does that mean I can just vote myself the Emperor of the world?"

The room erupted into mocking laughter, executives slapping the table in amusement.

Ottilie remained completely unfazed. "According to the rules, anyone present in this room may cast a vote. I am present, therefore I have the right to vote. Furthermore, history supports this. During his election, President Wallace cast a vote for himself. The Chairman did the exact same thing during his election. I am simply respecting historical precedent."

The laughter died instantly. The room went silent again.

Lachlan threw his head back and roared with laughter. He stood up, shaking his head. "You uncultured swines. This is why I tell you to read a book! Look at how embarrassing you are. When people call the entertainment industry a cesspool of illiterates, I don't even have the face to argue back."

With a dismissive wave, he led his entourage out the door.

Back in his suite, Lachlan tossed his jacket onto a chair and looked at his assistant. "Send the contract to Ottilie."

Justina bowed respectfully. "Sir, Ottilie Sewell comes with a lot of baggage. Signing a tainted artist might negatively impact the company's image if we don't handle it perfectly."

Lachlan's narrow eyes curved upward, but the amusement in them froze into ice.

"You're talking too much."

Justina quickly ducked her head, silencing herself.

"Do you think there's anything Yorath Fordham can do that I can't?" Lachlan asked softly.
