She sent Jarrod a quick text to let him know she was waiting.

Ten o'clock came and went. No reply, and no sign of him.

Right on cue, Summer Rhodes called, asking if she wanted to grab dinner later.

"Sure," Stella agreed. "I'm getting divorced today anyway. You can keep me company for a drink."

"Divorced? Already?" Summer sounded shocked. "Didn't you say just a few days ago that he refused?"

"He was just annoyed that I was the one who brought it up first," Stella replied.

Just as the words left her mouth, she heard hushed whispers from the women nearby: "Is he here to get married? He's gorgeous..."

Stella looked up to see Jarrod striding into the registry hall.

His expression was aloof and distant, looking exactly the same as he did on the day they first signed their marriage certificate.

Saying a quick "He's here, we'll talk tonight" to Summer, Stella slipped her phone into her bag.

As she walked toward him, she could practically feel the intense, envious stares of everyone in the room burning into her back.

Jarrod was dressed in an impeccably tailored black suit that highlighted his tall, imposing figure. His crisp cuffs drew attention to the strong, sharp lines of his wrists. He was undeniably striking.

But the freezing, predatory aura rolling off of him made it clear he was not a man to be approached lightly.

"You're here. Let's head over," she greeted him.

His somber gaze swept over her before he walked alongside her toward the divorce processing counter.

The envious whispers around them immediately morphed into sighs of relief and pity.
