It was Jarrod.

His right arm was secured in a sling, and he was casually scrolling through his phone with his left hand.

Standing there under the dim amber glow of the streetlights, dressed in a surprisingly light casual outfit, the cool night breeze whipping around him, he gave off a sudden, inexplicable aura of deep isolation.

What was he doing here? Just this morning, he had stormed off in a cold rage.

And he hadn't texted or called to give her a heads-up that he was coming to SD Apparel either.

As she was trying to piece it together, Jarrod seemed to feel her gaze and lifted his head, locking eyes with her.

His handsome face was utterly impassive, his dark eyes masking whatever emotions were churning beneath the surface.

Stella walked over to him and asked, "Jarrod, what are you doing here?"

Slipping his phone into his pocket, he replied with forced nonchalance, "Just passing by."

The SD Apparel factory was located far from the downtown core. Even if he had gone to The Fuller Group, there was no logical route that would make this a "passing by" detour.

Recalling the strange phone call from Mrs. Whitby earlier, it was almost certainly Jarrod pulling the strings.

And now, him standing out here—he had obviously come specifically to wait for her to get off work.

But since he wanted to play the "passing by" card, Stella wasn't about to call him out on it.

"Let's get in the car then, it's freezing out here," she urged softly.

Jarrod didn't say a word, simply pulling the back door open for her.

Once settled inside, Stella suddenly remembered Sebastian. She pulled out her phone to call him and let him know she was leaving, only to see a new message from him pop up on the screen.

[Stella, I just realized there's a detail on one of the drafts I need to revise, so I won't be able to drive you back. I'm so sorry.]

Stella quickly typed back: [No problem at all. I was actually just about to tell you: I've got a ride, so you don't need to drive me.]
