"Wow, Seb, you're even more of a gossip than I am!" Julian Jenson teased before turning his attention back to Jarrod. "Jarrod, what are you going to do? Are you really just going to go through with the divorce, or should we all brainstorm a way out of this?"

Sebastian stood up. "I'll sit this topic out so you don't think I'm prying. I need to take a call outside anyway."

With that, he grabbed his phone and headed for the door.

Julian shrugged it off and continued to press, "Jarrod, tell me the truth. Is there something else you're not telling us?"

Julian wasn't particularly close to Stella Quinn, but he remembered the night of the banquet. When Jarrod had helped her change her shoes, the tips of her ears had flushed pink. The way she had gazed so intently at her husband had been the undeniable look of a woman in love.

"Julian, how would you define love?" Jarrod asked suddenly.

Julian paused, realization dawning on his face. "Stella asked you that? What did you say?"

Perhaps it was the alcohol, or maybe just the suffocating weight on his chest, but Jarrod recounted his entire conversation with Stella.

"Wait, Jarrod, you obviously have feelings for Stella. Why didn't you just tell her that with absolute certainty?" Julian couldn't believe his ears. "And what the hell do you mean by telling her you'd go to Chloe if it were a serious emergency? What woman wants to hear that? Couldn't you have just said you'd stay by her side?"

"My first instinct was to prioritize the urgency of the situation," Jarrod replied flatly. "I was just being honest."

Julian stared at him, speechless.

He honestly wondered if Jarrod's immense IQ had completely cannibalized his emotional intelligence.

How could he be this dense?

"When a woman asks a question like that, she wants your favoritism. She wants to know she's your absolute priority! But you? You decided to calculate the logistics!"

Julian felt an overwhelming urge to shake some sense into his friend. "You could have at least told her you'd take her with you, or that you'd ask for her opinion first!"

Jarrod still didn't see the issue. "She knows my relationship with Chloe. She wasn't upset by a hypothetical scenario."
