"Oh, speaking of," Summer's tone artificially brightened, "the anniversary party is set for Sunday night. You're definitely coming, right?"
Stella didn't have the heart to pop her best friend's fragile bubble.
She had promised George she would help escort Grandma Margaret back to her hometown tomorrow. Even if she stayed overnight, she could easily make it back by Sunday afternoon.
"Of course, I wouldn't miss it," Stella promised.

As dusk painted the city, Sebastian and Julian strolled into the monolithic headquarters of The Fuller Group.
Jarrod had just wrapped up a brutal board meeting, rubbing his pounding temples as he entered his corner office, only to find the two of them sprawling on his Italian leather sofas.
He paused, mildly surprised. "What are you two doing here?"
"Seb's ending his sabbatical next week," Julian announced. "We figured we'd drag you out for drinks to celebrate. You weren't answering your phone, and your assistant said you were stuck in a bloodbath, so we brought the party to the billionaire."
Jarrod's gaze shifted to Sebastian. "I thought you were completely drained of inspiration. What massive luxury house managed to coax you out of retirement this fast?"
Avoiding Jarrod's piercing stare, Sebastian kept his eyes glued to his phone, scrolling aimlessly. "Nothing's finalized yet. Just testing the waters."
"I think getting back into the grind is exactly what he needs!" Julian chimed in with his usual lack of a filter. "It'll finally distract him from obsessing over a woman he has absolutely no business pursuing!"
Sebastian shot Julian a murderous side-glance. "Do you ever shut up?"
Julian puffed out his chest defensively. "I'm looking out for you, man! You've been wandering around like a lovesick zombie for days! I was half-expecting you to kick down someone's door and pull a kidnapping!"
Sebastian knew Julian was just running his mouth, but the joke hit too close to home. He sank deeper into the sofa, ignoring him completely.
Sensing the suffocating tension, Jarrod finally spoke up. "Didn't you want to drink? Let's go."
