Chapter 480
Inside the simply furnished apartment, only a single table lamp was on.
Sasha lay in bed.
She had woken up early, checked the time, and fallen asleep again.
She didn’t know how much time had passed when she faintly heard the sound of a key turning in the front door.
She jolted awake from her hazy dream and sat up at once. Holding her breath, she listened closely to the movement outside, her heart beginning to race.
The door opened.
Then she heard keys being tossed onto the shoe cabinet with a sharp clatter.
“Cough…”
A familiar cough came from outside.
Sasha pressed a hand to her pounding heart. Only after letting out a breath of relief did she lower her hand. She got out of bed, slipped into her slippers, and was just about to leave the room when the bedroom door was pushed open from the outside.
The gray-haired man standing in the doorway was clearly stunned when he saw her.
But that shock disappeared almost instantly. His expression turned cold as he stared at her.
“What are you doing here?”
Sasha looked at the face she had grown so used to over the years, yet another face still rose in her mind.
Their faces were completely different, but the tone of his voice just now sounded so much like it had back then.
He had always been like this.
If she hadn’t stumbled onto his secret, he probably would not have bothered to say a single word to her. Ever since she found out about this place, he had barely come back.
Her eyes suddenly welled with tears, and a low laugh escaped her.
She wasn’t wearing her own clothes, but an oversized men’s dress shirt. Even well past fifty, she had kept her figure. In her youth, she had graduated from a dance academy, and years of training still showed in the way she carried herself.
“This place is practically half my home by now. Why are you so surprised to see me here?”
Before she could take another step, the man strode forward and locked one hand around her throat.
“Why are you hiding in my apartment?” he demanded, his voice hoarse with fury.
Through her fading vision, all she could see were the man’s cold, ruthless eyes.
After all these years, he still looked at her the same way.
Just as she thought she was about to die at his hands, he suddenly threw her aside.
With nothing holding her up, Sasha collapsed to her knees. Air rushed back into her throat, and she clutched her neck, coughing violently as color slowly returned to her face.
Tears streamed uncontrollably from her reddened eyes.
He had really wanted to kill her just now.
“I gave you my whole heart, and you tried to kill me?” Sasha looked up, her face covered in tears.
She questioned him with hatred in her voice, only to see him bracing one hand hard against the wall.
The veins on the back of his hand stood out sharply. Blood seeped from the corner of his mouth, and with one harsh cough, he spat up a mouthful of blood.
“Warren!”
Sasha’s face went pale, and in her panic, she called out his name.
