Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 479

Chapter 479

Jimmy’s hand paused around the coffee cup, sending a faint ripple through the dark coffee.

He took a slow, unhurried sip.

“That was a very long time ago. I’m not sure why you would bring it up now, Mr. Xander.”

“No one treats another person well for no reason.” Chris’s fingertips rested lightly on the table. “I look into everyone who gets close to Winnie. I assume you don’t mind, Professor Freeman?”

“Not at all. After all, it’s your way of protecting her. If it’s for her safety, then it’s a good thing.”

Jimmy glanced at the man sitting across from him.

“At first, I did look after her because of her mother. But Winter truly is one of the best students I’ve ever had.”

At the mention of Winter, a trace of admiration appeared in his eyes.

“That’s very generous of you, Professor Freeman,” Chris said, a faint curve touching his lips. It looked almost like a smile, but also like mockery. “The woman you never got over had a child with another man, and not only did you accept that child, you went out of your way to take care of her.”

Jimmy’s expression remained calm. He smiled.

“At my age, those things don’t matter much anymore. Besides, her parents passed away so many years ago. It would make no sense for me to take my own regrets out on her.”

Chris smiled but said nothing.

“I asked you here today for one reason, Professor Freeman. I have no problem with you being kind to Winnie. But you’d better not help her leave Liono City again. I let the Eveland foreign correspondent application go because of her. If there’s a next time, I won’t be so forgiving.”

In the parking lot outside the hotel lounge, Dominic hadn’t gone upstairs. He stayed in the car instead.

When he saw Chris come downstairs and walk toward him, he pushed open the car door. Chris got in.

Dominic first studied Chris’s expression in silence before asking, “Why did you want to see Professor Freeman? Did you threaten him again?”

“Some truth. Some bluff,” Chris said flatly.

He lifted his eyes and looked through the windshield. Not far away, Jimmy was getting into the car Gavin had arranged for him.

“So Professor Freeman never married all these years because he’s secretly been in love with your aunt?”

Chris let out a cold sneer. “No wonder Lily looks down on you. What kind of nonsense are you coming up with?”

“I’m just brainstorming, okay? Leave Lily out of this!” Dominic shot him a glare. “Then why did you bring Professor Freeman here? What were you testing? Or did you find something? How much are you still hiding from me?”

“Actually, there’s something I’ve suspected for many years.”

Chris leaned back against the seat and pinched the bridge of his nose.

“Winnie’s parents might still be alive.”

Early morning sunlight broke through the thin mist and fell across the weathered walls of a residential building.

On one of the floors, every curtain was drawn tightly shut, blocking out even the smallest sliver of light.

From the outside, it looked as if the owners had gone on a long trip and hadn’t returned in years.
