Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 499

Chapter 499

Winter’s gaze moved from Chris’s face back to the phone screen.

The battery icon in the upper-right corner was red.

The same red as the rims of her eyes.

The video had paused automatically because of the low-battery warning. It had stopped on Richie tilting his head and smiling brightly at the camera.

She missed him so much.

Seeing her like that, Chris’s gaze darkened. His grip on the phone tightened, and he forced himself not to call someone over with a power bank.

She had barely rested all day.

It was time to get her back upstairs and make her sleep.

Winter was quiet for a few seconds before she asked softly, “Can I watch more when I wake up?”

Of course she knew what he was doing.

Chris had known from the start that his phone was almost dead. He had shown her the videos on purpose, waiting for the low- battery warning to appear so he would have a reason to send her back to bed.

He knew how badly she wanted to see more of Richie.

And he knew that was the only way to make her rest.

“After you sleep for eight full hours,” Chris said, bargaining with her.

The phone screen went dark on its own.

Winter’s lashes trembled.

Then she said softly, “Okay.”

Gavin didn’t come closer.

Only when Chris started walking back with Winter did Gavin quietly step into the shadows. He waited until they entered the elevator and the doors slowly closed before stepping out from the corner again\

The night had grown deeper, and the air carried a faint, damp chill.

His expression remained calm and unreadable as he stood in the empty corridor and spoke.

“Everyone on the first half of the night shift, go rest.”

The shadows in the corners shifted briefly. Then everything went still again, as if only a breeze had passed through.

Gavin walked into the lobby and headed for the elevator.

Just then, the doors of the elevator beside the one Chris and Winter had taken opened.

He paused.

His cool gaze shifted that way.

Wendy stepped out, still half-asleep, with a coat wrapped over her pajamas.

Her again.

Gavin’s brows moved slightly.

She had probably woken up, found Winter missing from the room, and come downstairs to look for her. Her hair was tucked behind her ears, messy and uncombed. She was wearing slippers and yawning as she walked.

Gavin looked away.

Before she could lift her head and notice him, he turned to head back to the corner where he had been standing.

But the moment he turned, her voice came from behind him.

“Gavin, have you seen Winter?”

Gavin stopped.

Wendy yawned as she walked around him and stood in front of him.

At five foot six, she was considered tall for a woman.

But in front of Gavin, who was nearly six foot three, she still looked small.

A height difference like this would probably make a hug feel ridiculously safe.

The thought flashed through Wendy’s mind, and she immediately reminded herself to stay calm.

Stay cool.

She couldn’t let Gavin see the hungry little predator inside her.
