Chapter 388
She had never been the one in control.
Chris had set this trap for her from the very beginning.
When the bodyguard brought her food, she demanded again and again to call Gavin.
The call finally went through, and she questioned him immediately. “Where’s the antidote?”
“When Mr. Xander wants you to take it, he’ll give it to you,” Gavin said evenly.
Skyla’s hoarse voice rose sharply. “You lied to me, didn’t you?”
“The page you showed me was fake, wasn’t it? He never clarified anything about him and Winter, did he?”
Her hysterical questions were met only by Gavin’s even colder voice.
“Think whatever you want.”
Skyla gritted her teeth. “Gavin!”
The line went dead.
The bodyguard took the phone away.
She collapsed to the floor, her mind racing. Chris had set up this trap to find out whether she really had the antidote. Now that he had it, why had he still not given it to her?
Did someone else need the antidote?
Mrs. Xander Sr. was already dead. Winter had been pregnant, but the child had taken the disaster for her, and the child was gone.
So there should be no one left who needed it.
Skyla closed her eyes.
It had been quite a while since the bodyguard had come in with dinner. By now, it should be completely dark outside.
She touched the old scar on her wrist, the one left from when she had cut herself years ago.
A chip had been implanted beneath it.
A tracking chip.
If that person couldn’t reach her, he would definitely guess that something had happened to her. They were in this together. She held the key to an enormous fortune, and there was no way he would abandon her.
Suddenly, she felt a faint sting in her wrist.
A cold light flashed through her eyes.
Some of them came from the intersections and merged onto the main road.
One truck cut in between Winter’s car and the bodyguards‘ car. Seeing this, the bodyguard turned the wheel, about to overtake it.
But then another truck suddenly closed in from behind them.
The bodyguard immediately sensed something was wrong.
They were trying to box them in.
“Call Zion. Tell him to send people over,” he urged his partner.
At the same time, two black sedans came up fast from behind, weaving between the trucks like flashes of lightning. The bodyguards inside had all been trained personally by Gavin.
Just as they were about to catch up to Winter’s car, the truck directly behind her suddenly overturned.
With a thunderous crash, its cargo spilled across the road. Heavy bags of cement tumbled out, blocking the way.
Gasoline spread across the pavement under the streetlights.
“Damn it!” one of Gavin’s men shouted, his face changing.
The next second, a deafening explosion tore through Industrial Road.
