Chapter 389
Meanwhile, the chairman’s office at Xander Corporation was brightly lit.
Chris was in the middle of a video conference about the corporation’s overseas strategy for the coming year.
When the meeting ended, he picked up the spare phone on his desk to check whether Winter had sent Roy any messages.
Suddenly, the office door was pushed open from the outside.
Gavin hadn’t even knocked. His expression was grim.
“Mr. Xander, something happened to Mrs. Xander.”
Chris stood at once, almost before the words had fully landed. His expression turned frighteningly cold.
“Where is she?”
He was still holding the phone, and the chat window between Roy and Winter was open on the screen.
Gavin followed half a step behind him as they strode toward the elevator, reporting as they walked.
“At first, her car was heading toward Kingwell Road. For some reason, she suddenly changed routes and headed toward Industrial Road instead. She was driving fast. Our men were about to catch up when a cargo truck on the road suddenly exploded and blocked them off. They can’t reach her now.”
The explosion had happened less than a minute ago.
As soon as Gavin got the call, he had someone contact traffic control to pull the surveillance footage from that road.
Kingwell Road.
Chris’s chest tightened.
That was the road to Roy’s house.
She had been planning to see him.
Then why had she suddenly changed routes?
The explosion. Someone had deliberately lured her there.
His usually steady stride turned uneven.
Gavin’s phone rang again. He listened to the update for a moment, then said sharply, “Understood. Notify everyone nearby to move in immediately. Mr. Xander and I are on our way.”
After hanging up, he said to Chris, “Mrs. Xander’s car is heading toward the outskirts. I’ve already sent people after her.”
Why would she go to the outskirts?
The timing was too perfect. Whoever had taken Winter knew the news would reach him right away. They also knew he would bring Gavin with him to save her.
Chris’s security team had already been deployed. Another car pulled up beside Gavin.
“Someone has slipped into Liono City.”
Chris slid into the driver’s seat and slammed the door shut. With a roar, the car shot away from Xander Corporation.
Five black sedans followed close behind.
Chris floored the gas, his thin lips pressed into a hard line. A sharp chill seemed to radiate from him.
Gavin didn’t waste a second. As soon as he got into the other car, he called the bodyguards at the villa and ordered them to keep a close watch on Skyla. Then he sent one team to the outskirts and ordered another to reinforce the villa.
After Gavin hung up, the bodyguards at the villa sealed off every entrance.
In the basement, Skyla couldn’t hear anything.
There were no windows, so she couldn’t see what was happening outside.
The dinner plate on the table was stainless steel. So was the soup bowl. They couldn’t be smashed or snapped apart. Even the meat had no bones in it.
There was nothing she could use.
