Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 251

Gavin came in from outside, his usually expressionless face tense and grim. He was moving fast, like something had gone very wrong.

Mr. White quietly excused himself from the dining room and went into the living room, where he snapped a photo of the recipes he had just written down and sent them to Winter.

Gavin hurried over to Chris.

“Mr. Xander, William’s condition just took a turn for the worse.”

Early that morning, Winter had asked Mr. White for soup recipes. She had been planning to wait until William woke up and made it through the twenty–four–hour danger window, then go home and make soup for him herself.

She wanted to surprise him a little and make him see her in a whole new light.

The truth was, she knew her cooking was bad.

To be more honest, she had no cooking skills at all.

A few years ago, when she had been taking care of Chris, she had confidently cooked meals and made soup for him too. Since he always ate what she made and never said whether it was good or bad, she had only gotten more enthusiastic.

Then one day, full of confidence, she had announced that next time she would make a whole meal for Mrs. Xander

Sr, too.

At the time, Chris was still blind. He reached out and caught her hand. In that calm, low voice of his, he had said, “ Was poisoning me alone not enough?”

Only after tasting it herself had she realized just how awful her cooking really was.

Winter was still lost in thought when the machines at William’s bedside suddenly started screaming.

She bolted out of the room. Medical staff rushed in and crowded around the bed.

“Blood pressure is dropping fast. The patient is going into shock. It’s internal bleeding.”

Winter stood frozen, cold all over. Her hand at her side almost lost its grip on her phone. The screen lit up with the soup recipes Mr. White had just sent her.

She stared blankly at the doctors and nurses surrounding William’s bed as they pushed him out of the room. She didn’t even know where they were taking him.

Where were they taking him?

He had been fine yesterday. He had even comforted her.

Like someone in a daze, Winter ran after them Outside the emergency treatment room, Sean’s assistant stopped

“The doctors are doing everything they can to save Mr. Zeller Ms. Scott, please try to stay calm.”

All she had to do was wait for him out here. When he came back out, if he saw her this shaken, he would only

She found a seat close to the emergency room doors and sat down quietly, staring at them without moving.

Sean stood just outside the doors, steady and self–possessed, his presence calm as a mountain. He was less than two feet away from where Winter sat.

Then the phone in his pocket vibrated.

In the quiet, empty hallway, Sean answered the call.

“Mr. Zeller, we re–interrogated the woman in custody. Someone hired her to kill.”

Winter’s eyes widened. She shot to her feet.

That nagging feeling that something was off finally clicked into place. Sean had sent his people back to question the woman because he had sensed it too.

“Who?” Sean asked. A sharp chill had settled into his deep–set eyes.-

Winter’s left ear had been injured before, so her hearing came and went. Most of the time, it was only about seventy percent of normal.

But maybe because of what had happened to William, she heard the bodyguard on the other end with perfect clarity.

“Skyla Jasper.”
