Chapter 182
Skyla didn’t want to do anything Chris would disapprove of.
The caregiver shot Chris a helpless look and said cautiously, “Mr. Xander, please talk to Ms. Jasper. She insists on eating at the table, but she gets dizzy when she gets out of bed.”
She had assumed Chris would feel bad for Skyla too and tell her it was fine to eat in bed.
But Chris, who was sitting on the couch going over documents, didn’t even look up. He coughed into his fist a few times and said, “That’s a good habit.”
Skyla lowered her eyes, the corners of her lips lifting slightly.
She knew it.
There probably wasn’t a single person in this world who could make him break his own rules.
The caregiver lifted her into the wheelchair and pushed her over to the table.
While she was eating, Gavin stepped outside to take a call. Skyla gave the caregiver a look, and she immediately understood. Quietly, she slipped out of the room and closed the door behind her, then stood guard outside with a smug look on her face.
Skyla forced herself to eat some of the soup from Spring Garden. It was bland, and she had no appetite to begin with, which made it even harder to swallow. But Chris had it sent over for her, and she didn’t want to waste it.
So she kept eating.
Once the caregiver had stepped out, Skyla tightened her grip on the spoon. When she heard Chris cough twice more, she looked over at him in concern. “Chris, are you coming down with something?”
Just then, the phone in his coat pocket vibrated.
As Skyla spoke, Chris pulled out his phone and glanced at the message.
Then, without a word, he got to his feet and strode out of the room, moving so fast his steps almost looked unsteady.

Zion drove into an upscale neighborhood.
William happened to own a place there too, and Zion came and went often to pick things up for him, so the security guards recognized him.
As he parked, he said to Winter, “When G isn’t out on a job, he keeps to himself. If he wasn’t teaching you self-defense and shooting, he could probably stay holed up in his place for ten days or even half a month.”

“So he’s kind of a homebody,” Winter said as she unfastened her seat belt.
The elevator went straight to the top floor.
But after Zion rang the doorbell several times, there was still no response from inside.
“That’s weird. Did he really go out on a job?” Zion frowned.
outside.
Her breathing turned ragged. Gripping the back of the seat with both hands, she kicked hard and knocked the man to the ground, then shoved the door open and ran.
But she had barely taken a few steps when a steel pipe suddenly swung at her from the side.
Winter’s eyes widened.
“Winnie, watch out!”
A dark figure lunged at her and knocked her to the ground, one arm raised to shield her head, but the steel pipe slammed down hard onto that arm.
