Chapter 181
Skyla woke up once just after dawn.

When she opened her eyes and saw Chris leaning back against the couch, either asleep or resting with his eyes closed, the dark mood that had weighed on her all day after he went public with his marriage to Winter lifted instantly.
See?
She was the one who mattered most to him.
The night before, Steve had called and told her that Winter was going to see Chris.
He had hinted more than once that he wanted her to work with him. But with Chris setting the standard, Skyla had never thought much of rich boys like Steve. Even if plenty of people saw him as impressive, she never had.
So she had never planned to work with him, and she had never thought she needed to.
But that phone call completely unraveled her. She just wanted to know which of them mattered more to Chris, her or Winter.
The answer was clear.
She had won.
In the end, Chris had still come to her side.
She took out her phone, snapped a picture of Chris leaning against the couch, and sent it to Winter so she would know he had stayed there all night.
It wasn’t really about showing off. She simply wanted to share how she felt.
Back when she and Winter were still best friends, they used to share little moments of happiness like
this all the time.
But the moment she lowered her phone and looked up, she met Chris’s dark, distant eyes from across
the room.
His gaze was so cold and empty that it barely seemed human.
By the time she woke again, it was dark outside. Her eyes instinctively went to the couch.
Chris was gone.
Her already pale face changed at once, and she clenched her fist tightly.
Just then, the door to the hospital room opened. Chris walked in with the doctor and Gavin behind him.
Chris’s cool gaze flicked toward her.

The doctor asked with concern, “Ms. Jasper, how are you feeling now? Are you uncomfortable anywhere?”
Skyla didn’t answer. She only stared at Chris.
His expression had always been distant and unreadable, but this time something felt different.
Why was he looking at her like that?
in bed. I’ll bring the tray over so you can lean against the headboard and be more comfortable.”
“No,” Skyla said firmly.
Winter had told her about it around ten years ago.
Chris didn’t like seeing people eat in bed.
Back then, fifteen-year-old Winter had complained about it nonstop. She said that once, when she had a fever, Chris still dragged her out of bed and made her sit in a dining chair to eat. He wouldn’t let her go
