Game Over, Mr. CEO: Your Wife Is Done (Winter and Chris) novel Chapter 152

Outside the ER, Winter said something to Zac that made him pull out his phone and make a call. Then he went back into the treatment area with her to check on her coworkers.

A little while later, a man who looked like a bodyguard came in carrying takeout from Spring Garden, a restaurant owned by the Davis family.

It was all food Winter liked.

Skyla’s caregiver hurried over, out of breath. “Mr. Xander, Ms. Jasper is awake.”

Chris’s expression turned dark. “Get the doctor,” he said coldly.

Late that night, Winter finally got home. After showering and getting ready for bed, she lay there tossing and turning, unable to sleep. After a while, she rolled over and grabbed her phone from the nightstand. She then opened her messages, and tapped on Roy’s chat.

“How good is your aim?” she asked.

What had happened at the senior care center that day made her realize something all over again. She was going to Eveland, a country torn by war. If she knew how to use a gun, she would have a better chance of protecting herself.

Out of everyone she knew, Chris was the best shot.

His grandfather came from a military family, so Chris had been around that world from an early age. She had heard that by the time he was thirteen, he was already an exceptional shot.

Like her, Chris had skipped grades and finished college at eighteen. He later enlisted, went through grueling training, served in the military for two years, and only then came back to take over the Xander family business.

His combat skills were even more impressive. He had once been a national MMA champion.

But there was no way she could ask Chris to teach her.

And she couldn’t ask Zion to teach her either. If she did, William would definitely realize something was

going on.

After sending the message, she dropped her phone onto her chest. Almost immediately, it buzzed.

Roy had replied, “I’m decent.”

Winter instantly perked up and sat straight up in bed.

Roy wasn’t obviously the type to show off. If he said he was decent, then he was probably really, really good.

So there was hope.

She quickly sent another text, “Better than Zion?”

“Yes.”

Winter’s eyes lit up.

Based on Roy’s usual habit of downplaying everything, if he said he was better, then Zion was probably nowhere near his level.

She walked over quickly and bent down in front of him, lowering her voice as she tested the waters. “Roy, why didn’t you reply to me last night?”

Roy sat on the couch, leaning over to tighten the laces on his hiking boots. He had clearly heard her, but he did not respond.

Winter found it strange. Roy really was hard to figure out. Big things never seemed to bother him, but now he was inexplicably upset over something this small.

Even after training ended, Roy still hadn’t said a word to her.

Watching him walk away, Winter felt more confused than ever.

Even as she drove home, she still couldn’t make sense of it.
