Chapter 153
Besides, even though Roy had gotten mad at her for no reason, he still came to save her the second she was in danger.
That alone was enough to make sure she couldn’t just leave him behind.
Fortunately, Roy at least cooperated with Gavin’s examination.
After the examination, Gavin said to Winter, “He’s not injured, ma’am. You can rest easy.”
Gavin wasn’t the type to say things lightly, so Winter finally let out a breath of relief. Then she picked up the phone Roy had tossed onto the driver’s seat and handed it back to him.
“Roy, thank you. Really.”
Gavin looked up at that.
Roy took the phone, gave Winter a quiet look, and typed something on the screen.
“I’ll drive you home.”
Winter had been about to turn him down. He had just fought off that many people and burned through so much energy. She didn’t want to take up more of his time.
But then she thought better of it. This was the perfect chance to ask why he had been upset with her. If it really was her fault, she would apologize.
And while she was at it, she could ask whether he would teach her how to shoot.
So she nodded. “Okay.”
Under the streetlights, her eyes shimmered with tiny flecks of light. A smile curled at her lips, and with those bright, lively eyes, she looked like a little fox.
She was clearly plotting something.
Roy looked away.
Winter’s car was too damaged to drive, so Roy led her to his SUV.
He opened the front passenger door, instantly killing any thought she had of sitting in the back.
What was left at the scene was handed over to Gavin and Zion.
The ride was smooth and quiet. More than once, Winter had to fight the urge to ask him what was going
After all, while he was driving, Roy couldn’t exactly type replies on his phone.
At last, the car pulled into Westbay.

Then he unzipped his tactical jacket, took off his sweater, and peeled away the thin muscle suit
underneath.
Without it, the lines of his shoulders, back, and arms looked even cleaner and tighter. He looked less bulky and more powerfully built, with a kind of explosive strength beneath his lean frame.
The right sleeve of the muscle suit had been sliced open.
And on his arm itself, the tip of the knife had only left a shallow cut.
He pulled off the black mask and tossed it onto the passenger seat.
Then he unscrewed a bottle of water and tipped his head back slightly. Beneath his sharp jawline, his Adam’s apple rose and fell with each swallow.
Then a faint buzz broke the silence inside the car.
He reached into the hidden compartment, pulled out a second phone showing an incoming call, and answered it with a swipe of his thumb.
His cool voice rang out in the quiet car.
“Those were Fabian’s men.”
