Mrs. Young had never been spoken to like that in this house.
Winter was the complete opposite. She was easygoing, playful, and generous. She never put on airs. Sometimes she even joked around with Mrs. Young and acted like she was family.
Chris was colder by nature, but he was still polite. He never ordered Mrs. Young around.
That said, Mrs. Young was in her fifties. She had seen plenty in her life.
“Mr. Xander is in his study,” she said evenly. “Before he came back, he told me not to let anyone disturb him.”
Skyla heard the hint perfectly. She gave a small laugh. “You’re Mrs. Young, right?”
“Yes, Ms. Jasper.”
“It’s fine if you don’t know me,” Skyla said, still smiling. “But you can’t do this next time.”
She ignored the clear refusal and lifted a hand to signal her caregiver. “Let’s go upstairs.”
Mrs. Young hurried forward to stop her, but she had barely taken one step before Skyla’s bodyguard blocked her path.

Mrs. Young’s heart sank.
Skyla had explained everything in a few sentences and made herself sound like she was only worried. Meanwhile, Mrs. Young now looked like the one being disrespectful and unreasonable.
Someone like Skyla wasn’t the kind of person Winter could compete with, not when Winter was so straightforward.
Mrs. Young lowered her head and stayed where she was.
Chris said calmly, “Mrs. Young, bring Ms. Jasper some tea.”
“Yes, sir.”
After Mrs. Young left, Skyla looked at Chris’s hand and asked with concern, “I heard you hit Zac. Are you

“I was worried you’d hurt yourself,” Skyla said softly. “Your leg isn’t fully healed. Why would you get into a fight? What did Zac do?”
Only then did Mrs. Young notice the injury on Chris’s hand. She hurried off and came back with ointment.
Before she could hand it to Chris, Skyla took it from her. “I’ll do it.”
She rolled closer. Their knees were nearly touching.
Skyla reached out, gentle and careful. “Chris, let me put this on for you.”
