Seeing this, Wesley made no move to stop them. Instead, he led Frederick straight toward the main hall in the front courtyard.
Watching the scene unfold, Frederick sensed something was off. After a moment of thought, a sudden realization hit him.
Not good!
Wesley had specifically mentioned the first, second, and fourth Ravenshire masters being away. He deliberately left out the fifth master, Benedict Ravenshire!
The Ravenshire family maintained a delicate balance between lawful and illicit power. Today, all the clean members were conveniently absent. This was a classic trap to wipe out the opposition with pure, unadulterated force!
Frederick's footsteps faltered. He turned toward the adjacent colonnade, intending to leave, when a gunshot suddenly echoed from just beyond the wall.
In the next second, gunfire erupted like a boiling pot boiling over, chaotic and deafening.
They were actually engaging in a full-blown firefight within their own inner courtyard. Frederick felt the blood drain from his face, cold sweat soaking through his shirt as he stared in horror toward the twelve carved doors of the main hall.
Scared to death, aren't you, you old fool? Wesley thought. My young master might be terrible at romance, but that doesn't mean he's useless at everything else.
To maintain his professional facade, Wesley gestured politely. "Elder Mr. Whitmore, please step inside."
Frederick clenched his fists. After a long moment of deliberation, he turned and marched toward the main hall.
He refused to believe it. The Whitmore family's status was unimpeachable. Surely this young Ravenshire prince wouldn't actually dare kill him right inside Obsidian Estate!

Meanwhile, at The Everhart Estate.
"What?! They were beaten back out?!"
Graham Everhart had been in poor spirits lately because of his granddaughter, Sophia Everhart. He hadn't even bothered setting up his usual opera stage. But upon hearing that Frederick had been chased out of Obsidian Estate by Alaric, the old man practically jumped out of his sickbed, suddenly full of life.
"Explain exactly what happened. Did they beat the old man too?"
Simon, the butler, hurried to pour Graham a cup of tea.
"The exact details are still murky, but Gideon forcing his way into Obsidian Estate with a search warrant is common knowledge now. The commotion was massive, and there was definite gunfire. They used live ammunition. As for the search, nothing came of it. Word is that the Whitmores didn't even go home afterward—they went straight to the hospital."
