Has he finally figured it out?!
Wesley followed quietly behind, his face a mask of professional calm.
Marissa was sitting by the flower trellis making dumplings. When she looked up and saw Alaric walking in, she immediately stood up, wiping her hands nervously. "Mr. Alaric, what brings you here?"
Alaric's gaze lingered on her face for a moment before he asked softly, "Where is Vivienne?"
Marissa glanced nervously toward Whitestone Lodge. "She's... she's still sleeping."
Without a word, Alaric turned and headed straight for the stairs.
Marissa's eyes widened in panic, and she scrambled after him. "Um, Mr. Alaric! Miss Lexton is still in bed. It's really inappropriate for you to barge in like this."
Wesley silently grabbed Marissa's arm, holding her back as Alaric pushed the bedroom door open and strode right in.
"Mr. Alaric!" Marissa cried out in dread, rushing into the room.
Alaric swept his gaze across the empty space. "Where is she?"
Marissa gripped her apron tightly. "Miss Lexton went out."
Alaric walked over to the windowsill, looking at the vibrant, blooming roses. The emotion in his eyes rapidly cooled. "Where did she go?"
If Vivienne had just gone out to have fun, Marissa wouldn't have been this panicked.
Realizing she couldn't hide it, she lowered her head. "Miss Lexton said she was going to Merriton City to find Mr. Cyril."
Whoa! Bold move!
Wesley shot a cautious glance at Alaric and quietly took a step back.
Alaric remained silent for a long moment, his fingers lightly brushing against the rose petals. "Is she alone?"
Marissa shook her head. "No, Lennox went with her."
Alaric looked up, staring through the stained-glass window toward Blackbriar Wing across the courtyard.
