When Audrina woke up the next day, it was almost noon.
The curtains weren't fully drawn, and a sliver of light slipped through the gap, landing perfectly on the pillow. The man was no longer in the room.
She rolled over, sucking in a sharp breath as her body ached like her bones had been taken apart and hastily put back together.
A glass of water sat on the nightstand.
She sat up and took a sip; the temperature was just right. Tossing the blanket aside, she got out of bed, her legs feeling like jelly.
A brand-new set of toiletries had already been laid out in the bathroom, with toothpaste neatly squeezed onto the toothbrush.
The corners of her lips curled up. That infuriating man was actually quite attentive.
After washing up, she slipped into one of Sebastian's dress shirts and pushed open the bedroom door. There were voices coming from outside.
"...The coordination meeting at two this afternoon has been moved to tomorrow morning. I've already approved the documents from Shoreham City."
Sebastian's voice drifted in from the living room.
Audrina shuffled out in slippers. There was someone else in the room, holding a tablet and giving a work report.
"Also—"
Layne caught sight of her out of the corner of his eye, the words dying in his throat.
He instinctively looked up. The woman was wearing a men's dress shirt, making no effort to hide the red marks scattered across her collarbone.
Audrina immediately clutched her collar and retreated back into the bedroom.
Layne's expression froze as if someone had hit the pause button.
His gaze quickly ricocheted to the table and then snapped back down to his tablet.
His ears turned bright red in the blink of an eye, the flush spreading rapidly down his neck.
"Mr. Hawthorne, um, I left the things here. I'll be going now."
He hastily bent over, pushed several shopping bags toward the edge of the table, and bolted out the door without looking back.
Audrina only stepped out again when she heard the door click shut, glancing down at the paper bags on the floor.
Inside was a complete set of high-end women's skincare products, two pairs of slippers—one fluffy, one for the shower—and a few sets of pajamas.
She looked over her shoulder at the man who was busy dealing with work.
Her body still throbbed with a dull ache.
She smoothly leaned into his embrace, wrapping her arms around his neck. "Nope."
Her lips brushed against his jawline in a light kiss. "Having you is more than enough."
The moment the words left her mouth, she pulled him closer and sank her teeth into the side of his neck.
The man let out a muffled groan, his hand resting on the back of her head as he let her suck and bite at his skin.
Audrina kissed him for a moment longer before pulling back, looking very satisfied with the dark mark she'd left behind.
Her eyes drifted toward the paper bags by the table as she probed, "Were these prepared for your date?"
"Yes."
...Getting his confirmation made a strange knot tighten in her chest, and her fingernails dug slightly into his skin.
He might actually be getting married soon, which meant she really wouldn't be able to enjoy this anymore...
Sebastian felt the sting but didn't pull away. Instead, a hint of amusement surfaced in his eyes. "If you're still not satisfied, bite a little harder."
