Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 148

Ever since she returned from the hospital, Audrina had buried herself entirely in her work. Lately, she'd leave in the morning while Willow was still asleep, and by the time she got home at night, Willow was out partying.

The two of them simply kept missing each other.

"I just don't want to go," Audrina said.

Willow took another look at Carter's post and instantly understood.

She hit the nail on the head. "Why are you hiding from Mr. Hawthorne?"

The mention of a certain someone instantly brought back the memory of Sebastian purposely teasing her in front of his parents at the hospital entrance. He was the real dog.

Audrina gritted her teeth and gave a brief summary of the encounter.

She complained, "I don't want to deal with him. You didn't see the way his mother looked at me—it was like she was staring right through my soul."

Willow beamed with an auntie-like grin. "You two are already at the 'meeting the parents' stage? Mr. Hawthorne moves fast."

"What meeting the parents? That was just a coincidence, okay?" Audrina glared at her.

"Good thing I didn't agree to move in with him a few days ago, or else if his mom saw us tangled up like that, who knows what she'd think of me."

Willow narrowed her eyes. "He wanted you to move in with him?"

"Yeah."

The living room fell silent for a moment.

Audrina noticed an eerie little smile creeping onto Willow's lips and immediately went on high alert. "What's with that face?"

"Nothing." Willow snatched the throw pillow from Audrina's arms. "I just think it really is time for you to move out."

"Move where?"

"To his place."

Audrina's brows scrunched together. "Are you kicking me out?"

Willow replied, "Mainly because you're bothering me. You're sitting here venting about your man, and I can't even go out on a date."

Audrina opened her mouth, temporarily at a loss for a comeback.

"Besides," Willow added unhelpfully, "your man is so open about it, why are you being so coy? It's not like you're ugly—are you really scared to meet your in-laws?"

Audrina chucked a pillow right at her head.

"Stop talking nonsense!"

Willow collapsed onto the sofa, laughing uncontrollably.

But Willow's teasing did remind Audrina that crashing at her place indefinitely wasn't a real solution.

She thought about it and reached for her phone on the coffee table, intending to open a rental app and browse for apartments.
