Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 49

Audrina said, "I'm not avoiding you."

Sebastian scoffed lightly. "Is that so?"

"Starting yesterday, you deliberately put on that little show in the dining room just for me. Today, you locked yourself in your room, and when getting off the ship, you wouldn't even look at me. And you call that not avoiding me?"

Audrina felt a spark of annoyance and snapped instinctively, "Mr. Hawthorne, don't forget what you promised me. We agreed you wouldn't interfere in my business and you wouldn't get angry."

Wasn't he a lawyer? His respect for agreements had apparently been thrown to the dogs. He just kept breaking the rules over and over again.

But once those words left her mouth, they struck Sebastian's ears with an entirely different meaning.

He was inexplicably pleased, asking her, "So you're afraid I'm angry?"

What kind of twisted logic was that?

Was that really what she meant?

"I wasn't—"

Sebastian smiled faintly, his gaze still pinned on her as he cut her off. "No need to explain. The more you try to cover it up, the worse you'll make it look."

"Audrina," he called out softly. "When I called you Drina, you didn't stop me."

"How was I supposed to know you were going to use that name?" she said, looking away.

"But you didn't push me away." He reached out, holding her chin to turn her back to face him. "You only told me not to use it after the fact."

The body's reactions were always more honest than words, and truthfully, they both felt the underlying tension.

That was exactly how it had played out; in the heat of the moment, she hadn't stopped him...

Audrina didn't pull away from his touch, boldly meeting his eyes. "That's just twisting my words!"

"Alright then, I'll give you a chance to twist some words too."

Left completely speechless, she decided to change tactics. "Sebastian."

She softened her voice, calling his name as if rolling a melting piece of candy on her tongue, the ending lilting upward like a seductive, invisible hook.

He loved hearing her say his name like that.

So many people in this world had called his name, but she was the only one who made his heart ache with anticipation.

His thumb was still resting against her jawline.

Audrina gently pulled his hand away from her face, slowly lacing her fingers through his and holding on tight.

It was highly manipulative, overly sweet sophistry, and he was completely helpless against it.

His only option was to reach out and pull her in.

Audrina crashed into his chest, and before she could even react, his lips crashed down on hers.

He stole the breath right out of her lungs, kissing her until she was dizzy and deprived of oxygen.

Trapped inside the enclosed car, her cheeks instantly burned hot.

When he finally pulled back, he rested his forehead against hers, his hand cradling the back of her head.

His breaths were scorching. "Can't resist me, right?"

"...Huh? Yeah."

Had he completely missed the point? She just wanted him to stop interrogating her.

She had originally planned to give him the cold shoulder, but looking at how things were going, was that even remotely possible?

Sebastian whispered, "Then next time, I'll offer door-to-door service."
