Audrina froze in surprise.
It seemed Cyrus was genuinely offering her a way out.
But she barely knew the man. Between the birthday banquet and tonight, they had crossed paths maybe a handful of times, and their total exchanged words could be counted on two hands.
Still, he was right. There was absolutely no way she was spending the night here.
"Thank you," she said. "Just dropping me off somewhere I can catch a cab will be fine."
Cyrus gave a slight nod, didn't say a word, and stepped aside to let her pass.
He led her through the back of the house.
They navigated a long corridor on the ground floor, slipped past the kitchens, and pushed through an inconspicuous side door that opened out into the rear driveway. It was pitch black, illuminated only by the faint, yellow glow of a distant streetlamp.
Audrina stopped dead in her tracks.
The Aston Martin was parked right in front of her.
Seeing her rooted to the spot, Cyrus offered a quiet, amused reminder. "Get in, Ms. Monroe."
Audrina finally snapped back to reality. Cyrus opened the passenger door for her, and she slipped inside.
Sebastian was leaning back in the driver's seat, half his face hidden in the shadows. She couldn't read his expression, but his dark mood was palpable.
Cyrus shut the door, stood by the window, and tapped twice on the roof in a casual goodbye. Then he turned and vanished seamlessly into the night.
The car rolled slowly down the driveway, completely silent, in stark contrast to its obnoxious arrival earlier.
Audrina sank into the leather seat, the tension she had carried all evening finally unraveling. As her shoulders slumped, she suddenly registered the sharp, throbbing ache radiating from where her lower back had slammed into the vanity.
She didn't say a word, just subtly shifted forward an inch so her back wasn't pressing against the seat.
The road down the mountain was full of hairpin turns, but Sebastian navigated them with flawless, steady precision.
He kept his jaw locked, refusing to utter a single syllable.
The silence in the cabin felt incredibly heavy and unnatural.
Audrina shifted again, trying to find a position that didn't hurt, before finally breaking the quiet. "Did you call Cyrus?"
How else could she explain his perfect timing, pulling her out of the room and leading her straight to Sebastian's car?
"Yeah."
