Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 135

Waldo's shrewd, experienced eyes darted back and forth between Sebastian's car and Audrina. His warm smile never faltered, but a spark of sharp curiosity had ignited in his gaze.

Before Audrina could formulate a response, the driver's side door clicked open.

Sebastian stepped out, casually shutting the door behind him. He took his time walking around the hood of the car, stopping directly in front of the older man.

"Mr. Sutton," Sebastian greeted with a slight nod, effortlessly reeling in his usual razor-sharp edge.

Waldo nodded back, a knowing smile playing on his lips. "Did you... drive all this way just to drop Audrina off?"

Audrina's fingers dug viciously into her purse strap.

She was terrified he was going to say something reckless like, *I'm just dropping my girlfriend off for dinner.*

She practically tripped over herself to speak before he could. "It was like this. I couldn't get a cab after work, and I happened to bump into Mr. Hawthorne. He offered me a ride since he had to meet a client nearby anyway. Just a coincidence."

As soon as the words left her mouth, she shot Sebastian a desperate, sideways glare.

Her eyes screamed: *Keep your mouth shut.*

Sebastian looked down at her. The corner of his mouth twitched, but he played along.

"Yes, just a coincidence," he agreed smoothly.

Waldo nodded. Whether he bought the story or simply chose not to call their bluff, his warm expression remained unchanged.

"Well, since you've come all this way, Sebastian, come inside and join us for dinner. If your father or Uncle Felix finds out you came to our front door and we didn't even offer you a glass of water, they'll say the Suttons have forgotten their manners."

Audrina's stomach plummeted.

She saw the absolute faintest ghost of a smirk touch Sebastian's lips.

"Mr. Sutton—"

*He's going to say yes. He's actually going to do it.*

"Mr. Hawthorne really has to get to his client meeting," Audrina interrupted loudly, stepping in front of him again. "It's a strict appointment, it would be terrible to cancel. Let's do it another time. I'll personally take Mr. Hawthorne out to dinner to thank him."

She turned her head, flashing Sebastian a saccharine-sweet smile.

Beneath that smile was a blatant, unapologetic threat.

Sebastian stared at her for two long seconds.

In those two seconds, Audrina felt like her heart was being squeezed in a vice.
