If she refused, Waldo might not say anything out loud, but he would definitely be hurt.
Audrina took a slow, heavy breath. "I'm almost there. I'll be there soon."
She ended the call, and a suffocating silence swallowed the car.
Sebastian didn't say a word, but she could feel the atmospheric pressure plummet. His jaw was locked tight, his lips pressed into a thin, unforgiving line.
"Listen..." Audrina hesitantly tugged at his sleeve. "Just drop me off at the next intersection. I'll grab a cab the rest of the way."
Sebastian ignored her. He didn't even glance in her direction.
"Sebastian?"
Still nothing.
Instead of pulling over, he hit the gas, merging aggressively back onto the main road—heading straight for the Sutton Estate.
Panic flared in Audrina's chest. "What are you doing? I can go by myself!"
Sebastian let out a cold, sharp laugh. "The old man personally called to invite you over. If I just dumped you on the side of the road to catch a cab, how terribly rude of me."
"Sebastian—"
"Relax." He yanked the wheel, violently overtaking a slow-moving sedan. "I'm dropping you off to have dinner at your ex's house. I've got enough grace for that."
Audrina was speechless.
Grace? He was gripping the steering wheel so hard his knuckles were white. Did he even realize that?
She took a deep breath. "Sebastian, stop messing around. I can go alone. If you take me there and Waldo sees you—"
"What if he does?" Sebastian shot her a dark look. "He sees his former future granddaughter-in-law getting out of another man's car? Perfect. It'll save your ex from having to brainstorm his next lie."
Audrina opened her mouth, only to realize she couldn't actually argue with his logic.
And she certainly couldn't tuck and roll out of a moving vehicle.
She snuck several nervous glances at him.
His face remained entirely devoid of emotion. If anything, he looked almost too relaxed—one hand draped casually over the steering wheel, the other resting near the shifter, looking like he was just out for a breezy evening drive.
But the tension in the car was thick enough to choke on.
Audrina cracked her window, letting the cool evening air rush in to break up the heavy atmosphere. She turned to stare out the window, her hands clenched tight in her lap, her mind an absolute mess.
