Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 127

His fingertips still pressed against her lips, cool and faintly calloused.

The passing streetlights slipped by the car windows in rapid succession, casting an alternating rhythm of light and shadow across her face. She kept her eyes downcast, hiding every trace of emotion behind her long lashes.

Sebastian was in no rush. His dark gaze settled on her glossed lips.

She had a beautiful mouth. A thinner upper lip, a full, plush lower lip, and corners that naturally curved upwards, making her look as though she held a permanent, secret smile.

The sheer lip tint she wore made her mouth look like a perfectly ripe cherry, practically bursting with sweetness.

He gently tilted her chin up, wanting to kiss her, but she still hadn't told him the truth.

Ultimately, he showed immense restraint, merely leaning down to press a soft, coaxing kiss against the corner of her mouth.

The cabin fell into a heavy silence.

Audrina was definitely a little buzzed. The prolonged quiet made something restless and chaotic stir in her chest, a frantic energy looking for an escape.

She hated this feeling.

Deciding she'd had enough, she pushed against his chest, wobbling as she climbed completely over him, straddling his lap so they were face-to-face.

But she refused to sit still, squirming restlessly against him.

Sebastian instinctively gripped her waist to steady her. He noticed her eyes were hazy and languid, yet beneath the drunken fog, there was a stark sliver of absolute clarity.

If they hadn't been pressed together so intimately, he would never have noticed she was faking it.

"What are you doing? Playing drunk again?" he murmured.

Audrina glared at him, thoroughly annoyed. "Why are you interrogating me the second we're alone? You're a lawyer, not a judge."

He fired back effortlessly, "A lawyer still has the right to gather evidence."

She wrapped her arms around his neck, tilting her head as if genuinely contemplating her defense.

The corners of her eyes were flushed a delicate pink, her gaze heavy with the effects of the wine. The faint ambient light caught in her eyes, looking as though a shattered galaxy was trapped within her irises.

After a long pause, she mumbled, "I didn't break the law."

With that, she buried her face into the crook of his neck. Pressing her lips against his warm skin, she bit him—hard.

Hypocrite.

Sebastian played harder and dirtier than anyone she knew, so what if she decided to talk a little trash?

Why did he have to back her into a corner over it?
