Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 126

"Screw you," Carter emphasized. "Your heads are literally the exact same shape from behind."

The suffocating tension was utterly obliterated by Carter's ridiculous banter.

Sebastian's expression was completely back to normal. He took a slow sip of his champagne, acting as if the entire ordeal had been nothing more than a harmless faux pas.

But as he lowered the glass, his eyes flicked down to his arm.

Right where she had pressed against him, a faint crease lingered on the immaculate fabric of his suit.

Sebastian pulled out a cigarette case and lit one.

As the pale smoke drifted upward, his devastatingly handsome face was obscured, hiding whatever dangerous thoughts were running through his mind.

Amidst the laughter, Audrina grabbed a glass of wine and downed it in one breath.

She was shocked to realize her heart was practically beating out of her chest.

That "Darling" earlier... well, it was too late to take it back now.

As the dancing officially began, a few bold women approached the group, asking the men for a dance.

Irritated and distracted, Zachary yanked at his tie before finally letting himself be pulled onto the floor.

Sebastian was nowhere to be seen.

Willow dragged Audrina into a quiet corner, vibrating with excitement. "Drina, you are out of your mind! Did you see Zachary's face when you said that? He turned practically green! And Mr. Hawthorne—I have never seen him look like that. It was like he'd just been kissed in public and slapped across the face at the same time. What exactly is going on between you two?"

"Shh." Audrina blinked innocently, lowering her voice. "I was just messing with him."

Knowing Audrina as well as she did, Willow instantly realized she had done it on purpose.

She burst out laughing.

When she finally caught her breath, she leaned in and whispered, "You're playing with fire. Based on the way he looked at you, you are in for it tonight."

Audrina playfully slapped her arm.

Towards the very end of the reception, Audrina's phone buzzed: [Parking garage. Now.]

She stood up and turned to Willow. "I'm heading out. I won't be going home tonight."
