Audrina took a bite of the spicy chicken. She chewed a couple of times, the heat immediately flooding her sinuses. She swallowed it down and took another sip of wine, washing the spice and the sharp tang away together.
"He wasn't answering my calls earlier. I'm going to track him down tomorrow and force a conversation."
Willow nodded, throwing in another curse. "Is he sick in the head? He wants to fool around outside but still keep the perfect wife tied down at home? He's delusional!"
She raised her glass high. "Drink! First toast to your happy breakup!"
"Cheers!" Audrina set down her fork. "Since I'm suspended anyway, I'll drink with you all night!"
Willow's eyes lit up. "Hell yes!"
She clinked her glass against Audrina's a little too hard, splashing a few drops of wine onto the table. Both of them reached to wipe it up, their hands bumping into each other, and they burst out laughing simultaneously.
Audrina wiped a tear of laughter from her eye and refilled both their glasses.
The television was still on, flashing soundless images across the room.
Outside the window, the night was heavy and dark, while inside, the living room occasionally echoed with their laughter and chatter.
...
New York.
Sebastian stood by the hotel window.
His tailored trousers accentuated his long legs, his posture impeccably straight.
The city's skyline was ablaze with light, casting a glow over the sharp angles of his profile. His thin lips were pressed tightly together, his jawline locked tight.
He wasn't looking at the view outside. His gaze was fixed on his phone screen, a faint crease forming between his brows.
The screen remained stuck on Audrina's chat window.
The last message was still hers: [...Go to sleep.]
That had been around 5 PM local time in Kingshire. She would have been preparing for her broadcast then.
By now, she had probably gone home.
But the mastermind behind the scenes hadn't stopped. The trending topics online had been fermenting for hours, and she had been enduring a relentless barrage of hate all night. He refused to believe she hadn't seen it.
Sebastian thought she would reach out to him, but his messaging app was completely silent.
