Bait for a Gentleman novel Chapter 105

The garage was dead silent. Audrina buried her face in her arms.

Zachary's 'I love you' played on an endless, sickening loop in her head.

An 'I love you' tacked onto the end of a threat. It was absolutely revolting!

Of all the garbage Zachary had spouted in his life, those three words were by far the filthiest.

She straightened up and looked at her reflection in the rearview mirror. Her hair was a mess, her makeup slightly smudged. Slowly, she began fixing her hair, tucking stray strands behind her ears.

She had survived much worse than this. It was just a little cyberbullying. It was just Zachary throwing a desperate tantrum.

Audrina sat there for a moment until she was perfectly calm, then dialed Zachary's number again.

She needed to cut this knot immediately. She couldn't let it drag on.

But she called once, twice, three times, and he never picked up.

Audrina stepped on the gas and decided to head home first.

...

Willow had been sitting cross-legged on the living room couch, hugging a throw pillow. The TV was on, but muted. Hearing the door open, she jumped up and ran over barefoot.

She watched as Audrina casually took off her shoes, looking completely unaffected, as if the massive scandal online had absolutely nothing to do with her.

But Willow knew the truth. Ever since the Monroe family collapsed, Audrina had been like this—she never cried, never threw tantrums, never complained about the pain. She just carried the weight silently on her own shoulders.

Everyone always said she was lucky. They said that even though the Monroes went bankrupt, the Sutton family was there to catch her. They said she'd be a glamorous high-society wife once she married Zachary.

And what was the reality? Her fiancé was an absolute piece of trash!

Willow forced a bright smile and took Audrina's purse. "I ordered takeout. Let me go heat it up. Go take a shower."

Audrina opened her mouth to say there was no need, that she had no appetite.

Willow didn't give her the chance. "Humor me. It's not poisoned, I promise. I only picked your absolute favorites."

Audrina blinked in surprise, then managed a soft smile. "Okay."
