Natasha’s eyes lit up instantly. ‘So Bernard means if I bring Percy back, he might actually leave Dorothy alone?’ Natasha thought, her heart racing.

“Alright,” Natasha said, not even hesitating for a second.

Even though she already had a way to deal with Bernard, she really didn’t want things to get ugly between them unless she had no other choice. Since he was offering her this option, it was way better than going against him.

The next day. As soon as Natasha got to the office, she shot Percy a message. She told him they were going back to Whiter Manor for dinner tonight.

She honestly didn’t expect Percy to even bother replying. Sure, when they got divorced, they’d signed an agreement to keep it quiet for now and keep up appearances together.

But in Natasha’s mind, “keeping up appearances” really just meant she was the one playing along for Percy’s sake. It was never about him playing along for her.

Besides, even when they were married, Percy never once went with her to visit her family. Now that they were divorced in every way that mattered, Natasha knew things had changed.

Especially now that Percy had become the heir to the Grosso family. There was no way he’d go along with her act anymore.

Natasha had already stopped expecting anything from him. Right before she was about to clock out, Natasha was surprised to see a reply from Percy.

Percy: [I’ll come pick you up in a bit.]

She paused, almost thinking she was seeing things. ‘Wait, Percy’s actually coming to pick me up from work?’ Natasha blinked, stunned. ‘Is he really planning to go back to Whittier Manor with me?’

This was definitely not something the Percy she used to know would ever do. Natasha packed up her things and headed downstairs.

‘Has Percy gone crazy or something now that he’s the Grosso family heir?’ Natasha thought, still baffled. But just as she was leaving the office, she happened to run into Jared.

“Off work?” Jared asked, his dark, intense gaze lingering on her.

Natasha nodded. “I’ve finished everything for today.”

Jared arched his brow. “There’s a social event tonight. You’re coming with me.”

Natasha froze, caught completely off guard. ‘Jared actually wants me to go with him to a networking dinner?’ Natasha thought, her mind reeling.

“But…” Natasha hesitated, unsure how to respond.

“But what? You don’t want to go?” Jared picked up on her reluctance.

Natasha explained, “It’s not that I don’t want to. I just have to go back to Whittier Manor tonight.”

Jared’s brows furrowed. “You’re seriously planning to go back there?”

Natasha totally got what Jared was hinting at. Honestly, she didn’t want to go back either. But Bernard had Collin relay a message; if she brought Percy with her, he’d finally leave Dorothy alone.

She’d never wanted to drag Dorothy into her mess. So she really had no choice but to go. But it wasn’t something she could easily explain to him.

“Yeah,” Natasha answered.

Jared was so exasperated that he was honestly at a loss for words. “Aren’t you afraid you’ll end up back in the hospital agaip?” he said, his voice laced with sarcasm.

Natasha gave a wry smile. “Yeah, I’m scared. But I still have to go.”

Jared studied her face, noticing the resolve in her eyes. He sighed, feeling helpless. “Alright, I’ll go with you.”

Jared grabbed her hand and led her straight toward the elevator. He kept holding her hand, even as they walked past the secretary’s office.

Natasha was super embarrassed. With him holding onto her like that, it was obvious to everyone that they were way more than just colleagues.

“Let go!” Natasha blurted out, trying to yank her hand back.

But Jared’s grip was like iron; he wasn’t letting go for anything. She couldn’t get free at all.

Finally, they stepped into the CEO’s private elevator. Before Natasha could say a word, her phone started ringing. She checked the caller ID; Percy was calling. That caught her off guard.
