An Affair With The Ceo (Natasha and Jared) novel Chapter 398

Chapter 398

During the dinner, Lily pretty much treated Natasha as if she were invisible. She just kept loading up Percy’s plate, fussing over him nonstop, her words dripping with motherly concern. Natasha wasn’t surprised; she had gotten used to it.

Lily never paid any attention to Natasha; Percy was always the only one she cared about. Natasha just wanted to keep her head down, eat, and get out as soon as possible.

But halfway through Lily’s fussing over Percy, she suddenly started grilling Natasha. “You’ve been busy, huhf Tomorrow is Brent’s funeral, and the whole family’s been helping out. Why are you the only one who’s missing?” Lily snapped, clearly displeased.

Natasha knew Lily was using this as an excuse to nitpick and stir up drama. Now that her son was the Grosso family heir so she could ignore Natasha’s existence.

She probably even thought Natasha wasn’t good enough for her son now. Little did she know that Natasha and Percyhad broken up long ago, and Natasha was no longer obligated to get involved in the Grosso family’s drama.

Just as Natasha was about to speak up, to her surprise, Percy jumped in and answered for her. “Mom, I told Nat she didn’t have to help out. If you’re upset, blame on me,” Percy said.

Natasha and Lily were stunned. ‘Did Percy just stick up for Natasha?’ Lily thought, barely able to process it. “This is literally the first time. He’d never done anything like this before.

Back when Natasha visited Lily at the Grosso mansion with Percy, he would always stay out of it, as if it was none of his business, whenever Lily acted superior and made Natasha feel unwelcome.

He never once took Natasha’s side or said a single word in her defense. ‘Did hell just freeze over or something?’ Lily thought. still reeling from shock. ‘He actually defended her and stood up against me?’

Lily was so shocked she almost couldn’t react. She couldn’t wrap her head around the fact that her son was sticking up for a woman he supposedly didn’t care about at all.

She was in disbelief and frowned. “Percy, I’m your mother. How could you go against me for an outsider?”

Percy didn’t apologize; instead, he looked even more stern. “Mom, the outsider you’re talking about is Natasha,” he said.

That statement hit both Natasha and Lily once again; they were both shocked. With those words, Percy had openly acknowledged Natasha’s status.

Natasha’s expression flickered with mixed emotions. She couldn’t help but think, ‘If only Percy had stood up for me like this in the past, things would never have ended up the way they did now. But sadly, there’s no such thing as “ifs” in this world.”

“You!” Lily was so mad she could barely speak. She glared at Natasha, her eyes full of rage. That look screamed accusation, as if Natasha were some seductress. ‘God knows what magic she used on iny son, Lily thought, fuming.

But she couldn’t openly embarrass her son, after all. Since Percy had already spoken up, it wasn’t appropriate for her to keep finding fault with Natasha.

When the dinner was nearly over, Percy’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID, then turned to Natasha and said, “Take your time; I’m stepping out to take a call.”

“Mm,” Natasha nodded in a daze, not quite sure what he was up to. In the past, Percy would never check in with her when he stepped away. Today, he seemed unusually out of character.

Natasha couldn’t quite put her finger on it; he just seemed different, but she couldn’t say exactly how.

Just as Natasha was lost in thought, a servant approached, bringing over a dessert. Lily shot her a look, and the servant
