Jared stepped out of the bedroom but lingered at the doorway, unable to take another step. Just the thought of Natasha in his room, her head on his pillow, wrapped up in his blanket, sleeping in his bed, his whole body felt hot and restless.
He was itching with desire, barely able to contain himself. He kept swallowing his saliva, his throat dry with anticipation. Natasha letting her imagination run wild about me, just like I am about her?’ Jared wondered: ‘Or maybe she’s already fallen asleep?’
Jared swallowed hard, his throat suddenly feeling parched. He couldn’t linger at the door any longer as he worried he might lose control and just storm right in. He turned and went downstairs to the kitchen for some cold water, trying to calm himself down.

In the middle of the night, Natasha was jolted awake by a nightmare. “No!” she cried out, her whole body drenched in sweat She’d dreamed, once again, about almost being assaulted by Felix in that private room…”
Natasha brushed the sweat from her brow, took a deep breath, and glanced out the window. Outside, darkness pressed against the window. The sky was still dark.
But after that nightmare, she felt completely drained, like she had been wrung dry. Her throat was parched and burning. She threw off the blanket, got out of bed, and left the bedroom. She was planning to head downstairs and grab a glass of water.
But as soon as she stepped into the living room, she spotted a small red ember flickering in the darkness. Natasha froze in her tracks. A faint whiff of tobacco drifted over to her nostrils. Her brows furrowed; she had a pretty good idea who it was in the living room.
“You’re still up?” Natasha asked, her voice hoarse.
“Mm,” Jared replied softly. Natasha didn’t press further and went straight to the kitchen.
As her throat burned with thirst, she pulled open the fridge and grabbed a bottle of mineral water. She had just twisted off the cap when a large, well-defined hand reached out.
Before Natasha could react, the bottle of water was taken from her grasp. She froze for a moment, instinctively turning to look at the man behind her.
Jared suddenly closed the distance, his broad, muscular chest pressed tightly against Natasha’s delicate back. “Don’t drink iced water at night,” he whispered, his deep, raspy voice right at her ear
His hot breath washed over her ear, making her whole body tingle. Natasha’s body trembled. She froze, not daring to move a muscle. “I want some water,” Natasha said, trying to stay calm.
“I’ve already prepared some warm water for you,” Jared said softly. He leaned in a little closer to her, reached up and over her head to grab the thermos. Then he poured her a glass of warm water.
Jared had showered and was wearing a dark gray robe. The belt was casually knotted, barely holding the robe together. The thin fabric hugged his frame, showing off his toned back and the defined lines of his shoulders and chest.
With Jared being so close, Natasha could easily catch his scent, masculine, laced with a rush of hormones. She edged away, trying to escape his chest pressed against her back, but Jared moved right back in, closing the gap and not letting her get
away.

The kitchen was practically sizzling with chemistry, the atmosphere thick with intimacy. Jared poured some warm water from the thermos into a glass and brought it right up to her lips.
Natasha froze for a second. She suddenly realized he had taken the glass away from her hands. The warm water slid down her throat, soothing the burning dryness left by the nightmare.
