Janina walked to the parking garage to get her car and head home.

She had been so busy lately that she hadn't had time to visit her parents in the countryside. She had to settle for video calls in the morning, afternoon, and evening to see Liam and Joy.

Children grew so fast. It felt like no time at all, and the two little ones had already grown bigger.

The underground garage was silent, the only sound her own footsteps.

Janina wrapped her coat tighter. She wasn't sure if it was because of Damaris's death, but the garage felt particularly eerie at that moment.

She was less than a hundred yards from her car.

Suddenly, three men in black, wearing baseball caps and masks, stepped out from behind a concrete pillar.

Janina jumped, startled.

Instinctively, she tried to change her path to avoid them.

She shifted to the left, but the three men walked straight toward her.

Although their caps and masks hid their faces, their eyes were fixed on her.

She watched them warily, turning slightly to press her back against her car door, at least preventing an attack from behind.

The lead man spat out the two words, his voice devoid of any warmth.

He gave a sharp nod.
