Untouchable
Amber POV
Time stopped.
And somehow, at the exact same time-
It moved too fast.
One second, I was kneeling beside my grandfather’s collapsed body on the hotel floor,.my hands shaking so violently I could barely hold onto him while guards shouted around us.
The next-
Everything blurred into flashing lights, screaming sirens, and black armored vehicles cutting through the streets of Rain City at terrifying speed.
I barely remembered getting into the car.
Barely remembered Jason pulling me against him while speaking sharply into multiple phones at once.
“Lock down the hotel.”
“Find the security footage.”
“No one leaves the city.”
“Contact Emory now.”
His voice sounded distant.
Like I was underwater.
The only thing my mind could focus on was the black card still clenched in my hand.
We never really left.
Those four words looped inside my head endlessly.
Over and over and over again.
The Vincents were everywhere.
Not just in our country.
Not just in Sum.
Everywhere.
And they had just tried to kill my grandfather.
By the time we arrived at the hospital, the entire place was already under military-level security.
Police vehicles surrounded the building.
Armed officers secured every entrance.
Government officials crowded the emergency wing.

The governor himself met us outside the operating area looking pale.

Chairman Asher’s condition is critical,” he informed us immediately. “The poison affected his cardiovascular system extremely quickly.”
Critical.
The word barely registered.
I watched doctors rush my grandfather past us on a hospital bed while machines screamed around him.
Oxygen mask.
IV lines.
Blood on the collar of his shirt where someone had ripped fabric away during emergency treatment.
He looked smaller somehow.
Fragile.
I hated it.
“Grandfather!” 1
One of the nurses physically held me back before I could follow them into surgery.
“Miss Asher, please-”
The operating doors slammed shut.
And just like that-
We were left waiting.
The hospital hallway slowly filled over the next hour.
The entire Asher board of directors arrived.
Executives.
Security chiefs.
Government representatives.
Even police commanders moved nervously through the corridors while guards secured every floor.
No one sat down. 1
No one relaxed.
Because if someone powerful enough to poison Chairman Asher inside a secured hotel existed-
Then no one in that hallway felt safe anymore.
I sat motionless near the operating room doors while the world moved around me.
At some point, someone draped a blanket over my shoulders.
At another point, someone handed me water I never drank.

Jason remained beside me the entire time.
Speaking constantly.
Moving constantly.
I could see him talking to officials.
To guards.
To the police.
At one point Emory appeared on one of the secure video calls, his face thunderous while Jason updated him rapidly.
But none of the words fully reached me.
My mind kept circling back to the note.
We never really left.
The meaning behind it felt suffocating now.
Because suddenly the old stories from the castle no longer sounded like history.
They sounded like a warning nobody took seriously enough.
The Vincents had survived exile.
Survived time.
Survived governments.
And somehow, generation after generation, they kept rebuilding the same machine.
Taking heirs.
Manipulating bloodlines.
Embedding themselves inside powerful systems until entire countries unknowingly danced on invisible strings.
A shiver ran through me.
How many politicians belonged to them?
How many corporations?
How many judges?
How many “respectable” families?
My stomach twisted violently.
Jason crouched in front of me suddenly, forcing my attention toward him.
“Amber.”
I blinked slowly.
His hands wrapped around mine carefully.

Only then did I realize how cold my fingers had become.
