Never left
Amber POV
We arrived at the hotel shortly after sunset.
The building itself was elegant in an old-world sort of way, the kind of luxury hotel that had once been magnificent and still carried traces of that glory despite the years. Tall marble columns framed the entrance while golden lights illuminated the dark stone exterior against the mountain skyline.
Grandfather’s bodyguards secured the perimeter immediately while the executives accompanying us handled the last of the paperwork regarding the land acquisitions.
Most of them still looked slightly overwhelmed after the speed at which the entire purchase had happened.
But strangely enough…
That was not the part that caught my attention most.
It was the way people kept looking at us.
More specifically-
At my grandfather.
And me. 1
The hotel receptionist greeted us politely the moment we entered the lobby.
At first, she behaved normally enough while checking the reservations under Asher Corp.
But the second she looked up properly at my grandfather, she nearly dropped the room cards in her hands.
“W-welcome,” she stammered quickly. “It is an honor to have you here.”
Her eyes then shifted toward me.
And somehow she became even more nervous.
Beside me, Jason looked mildly amused while the poor receptionist suddenly avoided eye contact entirely.
“Your suites have already been prepared,” she continued hurriedly. “If you need anything at all, please contact us immediately.”
Then she looked toward Jason.
And to my complete confusion-
She blushed.
Actually blushed.
“Mr. Sun,” she said softly, suddenly shy. “We are very honored by your visit as well.”
Jason blinked once, clearly caught off guard.
“Thank you,” he answered politely.
The receptionist nearly melted on the spot.

I narrowed my eyes suspiciously while we moved toward the elevators.
This place is weird,” I muttered quietly.
One of the older executives walking beside us overheard me and chuckled softly.
“You noticed?”
I glanced toward him immediately.
“Do they always act like this around my grandfather?” I asked quietly.
The executive looked genuinely surprised by the question.
“Of course,” he answered immediately.
I frowned slightly.
“Why?”
The man hesitated briefly before answering carefully.
“Because around here,” he admitted quietly, “people treat Chairman Asher almost like royalty.”
That made me stop walking for half a second. 1
Royalty.
The word echoed strangely after everything we had learned earlier about the Vincents and the old ruling families of Sum.
I glanced toward my grandfather ahead of us.
He walked calmly beside several officials, entirely unsurprised by the way hotel staff lowered their eyes respectfully whenever he passed.
And suddenly… 1
Something about this country felt stranger than before.
Later that evening, Jason and I called the children from our hotel suite.
The second the screen connected, chaos erupted immediately.
“You bought a castle?!” Alice practically screamed into the camera.
Alex looked equally scandalized.
“You bought a REAL castle and didn’t bring us?”
Rose looked excited enough to vibrate while Iris remained quieter, though even she could not fully hide her curiosity.
“It has towers,” I informed them proudly.
Alice gasped dramatically.
Jason sighed beside me.
“You are encouraging them.”

nbelievable.”
The children immediately began demanding details all at once.
Did it have secret passages?
Ghosts?
Armor?
Dragons?
“Unfortunately,” Jason interrupted calmly, “before anyone lives in the castle or even spends one night there…”
He looked directly at all of us.
“It needs major renovations first.”
The children groaned immediately.
To my complete betrayal-
I protested first. 1
“But the atmosphere!” I argued. “The dramatic medieval suffering aesthetic!”
Jason stared at me in disbelief.
“The plumbing barely functions, Amber.”
“That’s part of the experience.”
The children burst into laughter instantly.
Even Iris smiled openly for the first time all day.
Jason rubbed his temple slowly.
“I married a woman who willingly romanticizes tetanus.”
“That is slander.”
The call lasted nearly another hour before the children were finally forced toward bed by the exhausted security team back home.
Alice demanded castle-themed bedrooms.
Alex requested hidden defense tunnels.
Rose wanted a library tower.
And Iris quietly asked if they could someday plant flowers in the gardens together.
That request somehow affected me the most.
After the call ended, Jason went to shower while I decided to check on my grandfather before sleeping.
Mostly because he had looked unusually tired throughout dinner.

The hotel hallway outside our suite was quiet.
o quiet.
At first, I did not think much of it while walking toward my grandfather’s room farther down the corridor.
Then I saw movement.
Someone dressed entirely in black stood near my grandfather’s door.
Covered from head to toe.
Gloves.
Mask.
Dark hood.
For half a second, we both froze.
Then I spoke instinctively.
“Hey!”
The figure reacted instantly.
Not entering the room-
Leaving it.
Realization slammed into me immediately.
They had already been inside.
The figure bolted down the hallway at full speed.
“STOP!” I shouted instantly.
At the same time, I lunged toward my grandfather’s room.
The door was partially open.
My stomach dropped the second I entered.
“Grandfather!”
