Chapter 658-1

ALEXANDER

I had been standing outside my mother’s house for several minutes before I finally heard the familiar sound of a car approaching.

I glanced toward the road and immediately recognized Helen’s car as it came into view. I stepped

away from where I had been standing near the front entrance and watched as she drove through

the gate.

She hadn’t been home when I arrived.

I had considered calling her, but something had stopped me. I wasn’t entirely sure what I would say over the phone anyway. I had spent enough time making calls, asking questions, and speaking to people who either didn’t know what I needed or became uncomfortable the moment I mentioned

dark magic.

It was understandable, considering that in most werewolf communities, it was considered an

abomination to practice such magic.

At some point, I had realized that I didn’t want another conversation over the phone with my

mother.

Pwanted to see her.

Helen parked the car and turned off the engine. She gathered a few things from inside before stepping out. She closed the door, locked the car, and then finally noticed me standing near the

entrance.

She stopped.

For a moment, she simply stared at me.

Then she walked toward me, her expression carrying a mixture of surprise and amusement.

“What are you doing here, Alex?”

I raised an eyebrow.

“Good evening to you too.”

The sarcasm earned me the small smile I had expected.

Helen shook her head as she came closer. “Come here.”

Before I could say anything, she reached for me and pulled me into a hug. I let out a quiet breath as

my arms settled around her.

There was something about being held by my mother that still made me feel younger than I actually was. It didn’t matter how old I became or how many responsibilities I carried. There were

moments when I was still simply her son. I never really appreciated those moments as much as:l

should have until now.

She pulled away after a few seconds and looked at me.

“Come inside.”

I nodded.

We walked into the house together, and 1 followed her into the sitting room.

Helen moved around the room for a moment before turning toward me.

I sat down on one of the couches. She looked at me thoughtfully.

“You haven’t eaten anything all day, have you? What can I prepare for you?”

I stared at her.

For a moment, I genuinely didn’t know what to say. Did she really think I had come all the way here because I wanted to discuss what I wanted to eat?

My mother was standing there, looking at me as though the most important thing on her mind was making sure I had something to put in my stomach, while I had spent the entire journey here thinking about how her condition was now.

I shook my head.

“I’m fine. I’m not hungry.”

She continued looking at me.

“I can make something quickly.”

“Mom.”

She stopped.

I softened my voice.

“Just sit, please. I’m not hungry.”

Helen studied my face for another moment before finally giving in.

“All right.”
