A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 686

CHAPTER 649

SILVERTHORN PACK

THIRD POV

Seraphine needed to know exactly where her daughter was. Helen had always been stubborn. Even as a child, she had possessed an unusual ability to disappear whenever she decided she did not want to be found. As an adult, with decades of knowledge behind her, that stubbornness had only become more difficult to deal with.

Seraphine stood alone inside the quiet room of her home in Silverthorn, preparing the materials she needed.

She had considered simply leaving and travelling to Blood Crescent, where she knew Helen had been for years.

It would have been the obvious place to start.

Helen had spent years connected to Blood Crescent. However, locating the pack was not the same as locating Helen.

Blood Crescent was not close to Silverthorn. They didn’t even belong to the same region. Seraphine had never been there, and she had no reason to believe Helen was still living inside the pack house.

Even if she travelled there and asked questions, she could easily end up wasting days searching for someone who might already have moved somewhere else.

Worse, asking about Helen could alert her. Helen was cautious when she wanted to be.

If word reached her that Seraphine had travelled all the way to Blood Crescent looking for her, there was a very real possibility that she would disappear again before Seraphine ever got

close.

That was exactly the kind of thing Helen would do. If Helen was sick or dying and still didn’t reach out, then it meant that Helen wouldn’t want to be found.

Seraphine exhaled slowly.

“No,” she murmured to herself. “I’m not going to make it that easy for you.”

There was another way.

A locating spell. It was not complicated in itself. The difficulty came from the person being

located.

Helen was not an ordinary witch, nor was she someone who would leave herself completely exposed to magical tracking. She knew enough about their bloodline to understand how locating spells worked, and if Seraphine was correct about her daughter’s habits, Helen had probably already taken precautions.

Seraphine sat down and closed her eyes.

She gathered her thoughts and reached for the familiar current of magic beneath her skin while holding Helen’s old hairbrush that she had kept around.

The room seemed to grow quieter. She could feel the magic responding to her almost immediately, moving through her like something ancient that had never truly left her.

Seraphine stretched one hand forward and began the spell.

The first few words were spoken quietly.

The magic spread outward. For several seconds, nothing happened.

Then Seraphine felt the resistance.

Her eyes opened. Then she stopped.

The spell had encountered something.

A barrier.

Seraphine’s expression remained calm, but her attention sharpened. She tried again, carefully pushing the spell forward.

The resistance strengthened.

A faint pressure gathered around her fingertips before snapping back.

Seraphine slowly lowered her hand.

“So you did.”

She was not surprised.

Helen had indeed hidden herself.

She had placed a cloak around her location, something designed to prevent anyone from finding her through magical means.

Seraphine studied the empty space in front of her.

CHAPTER 649

Helen had known that someone might try to locate her.

That did not surprise Seraphine either.

Her daughter knew enough to understand the dangers of being exposed, especially after what she had done with the dark magic.

What Helen apparently had forgotten was that hiding from Seraphine was considerably more difficult than hiding from an ordinary practitioner.

Seraphine had spent her entire life learning and practicing all kinds of magic.

She had inherited knowledge that had been passed down through generations of the Mayfair lineage. She was one of the rare werewolves with such ability. They were not simply people who knew a few spells. They were the custodians of ancient magic that most people no longer understood.

Helen could hide herself. But she could not assume that the cloak would remain unbreakable from her mother.

Seraphine stood and walked toward a small wooden cabinet.

She opened it and reached inside.

Several dried herbs and magical materials had been carefully stored there. She ignored most of them and selected one particular flower.

It was small and delicate, with petals that had dried into a deep, muted color.

Seraphine carried it back to the center of the room. She placed the flower on the floor and

stared at it for a moment.

This would not be enough by itself.

She needed something that connected the spell to her bloodline.

Her blood.

Seraphine reached for a small blade.

Without hesitation, she drew it lightly across her palm.

A thin line opened across her skin. Blood gathered almost immediately.

She held her hand above the flower and allowed several drops to fall onto its petals.

The flower absorbed the blood.

CHAPTER 649

Seraphine watched carefully.

Then she crouched and picked it up.

She crushed the flower between her fingers.

The petals broke apart easily, mixing with the blood until they formed a dark, thick substance in her palm.

She rubbed the mixture between her fingers before placing it carefully on the floor.

Then she began drawing.

One line.

Then another.

The pattern slowly took shape beneath her hands.

It was not something that would have been recognizable to anyone unfamiliar with old magic. The markings were precise, arranged in a particular formation that connected the spell to the bloodline itself.

Seraphine continued until the final mark was complete.

She sat back on her heels.

For a moment, she simply looked at the pattern.

Then she placed both hands beside it.

Her eyes closed.

The room changed.

At first, it was subtle. A faint movement of air brushed against her skin.

Then another. Seraphine remained completely still.

The air began circling her… Slowly at first.
