A Warrior's Second Chance (Faye and Alexander) novel Chapter 667

Chapter 639-2

They were reminding me of the expectations that had existed long before I left Silver Hollow.

My being mated to Alexander had strengthened an alliance that had been carefully established by the council. Like my mother had made clear enough, an heir would only strengthen it further.

They knew that.

And I knew that too.

So, I wasn’t offended. I understood where they were coming from.

“I hope you will all continue to be patient,” I said with a small smile.

The elders laughed softly.

My father shook his head with a faint smile.

“Give her some time.”

“We are only looking forward to the future,” one of the elders replied.

“I know,” I said.

It was funny how Silver Hollow also had no heir yet, but everyone had their full attention on a Blood Crescent heir. That was how important the Blood Crescent alliance was to them.

I wasn’t going to let them control when I chose to be a mother. But I knew better than to argue with them.

The talk about Blood Crescent had barely settled when the doors of the council hall opened again.

I turned toward the entrance with the rest of the council, and my attention immediately settled on Jason as he walked into the room.

For a moment, neither of us said anything.

Then Jason greeted the elders respectfully before taking his place at the head of the table.

The atmosphere in the room shifted almost immediately.

Whatever warmth had filled the hall when I arrived remained, but the purpose of the meeting seemed to settle over everyone at once. The elders became more serious, and the casual conversation gradually faded.

I glanced around the table and then looked toward my father.

It occurred to me that I probably should at least try to excuse myself.

I had come here intending to greet the elders, pay my respects, and perhaps hear a little about what had been happening in Silver Hollow. I had already accomplished the first two things. Staying for the actual meeting was different.

Especially now that Jason was here. I needed to make a move first.

I pushed my chair back slightly and rose to my feet.
