A Man with Nerves of Steel (Joseph Hart) novel Chapter 232

Chapter 232

Not long after Joseph left, Cora arrived at her parents’ villa. Bernard said there was an emergency, so she thought Joseph had lost control and hurt her parents, and rushed back immediately.

Arriving at the study, Cora noticed Bernard’s dark expression and asked, “What happened?”

Bernard said that Joseph had threatened to report them to the authorities over the bribery related to the Bubble Bay project. He stared at Cora and made a decision.

“We can’t keep Joseph around anymore. Either you divorce him, or we deal with him for good.”

“Dad, don’t be rash…”

“Cora, look at the two of you. What more do you want from him? The kids aren’t even his, and you two are already drifting apart.

“What are you even hoping for at this point? He already threatened us today. He might actually go to the authorities tomorrow.”

“Joe is my husband. You can’t hurt him.”

“Even if we leave him alone, he’s coming after us! Cora, even the strongest system can be destroyed from within.

“Right now, Joseph is that weak point. If you don’t deal with him soon, both you and our family will be doomed. Can’t you see that?”

“Dad, things aren’t as bad as you think. I’ll speak to Joe about this and talk things out.” 1

Cora went to check on Kimberly and found her sleeping soundly. After speaking with Helen and the housekeeper, who had been following Joseph and Kimberly around, she learned that he had taken Kimberly out for lunch and spent the afternoon playing with her.

Since Kimberly had worn herself out from playing, it was only natural that she fell into a deep slumber. Joseph was truly a cunning man.

But Cora was secretly pleased too. As long as Joseph still cared about his daughters, the divorce would never go through.

But Helen’s next words hit her like a bucket of cold water. “It pains me to see you and Joseph fighting like this.

“We all know how stubborn Joseph is, so I decided to try talking things out with him. I met with him for lunch, and we had a calm, honest discussion.

“Joseph brought up something else too. He told me Kimberly, like Natalie and Selena, isn’t his daughter either. All three kids aren’t his.

“Of course. Nat and Selena too.”

“What if Joseph shows proof that Kim isn’t biologically related to him? Are you still going to deny it?”

“I don’t know what went wrong here, but Natalie, Selena, and Kimberly are Joseph’s and my children. That much is beyond doubt. I’d know better than anyone else whether I’ve slept with another man.”

“Is it possible you’ve forgotten?”

“Do you take me for a fool? You really think I wouldn’t remember something like that?”

Cora approached Bernard and brought up her request, only for him to turn her down.

Bernard said, “Our family is operating on such a large scale now, and you want me to just stand by and do nothing?

“Dad, have you forgotten how our family got to where we are today? Before I took over, we barely had any money or projects under the company.

“All of you were living on a tight budget. We’re only where we are today because of me. Without me, we wouldn’t even be here.” Cora’s voice carried quiet authority.
