Soon, Joseph and Cora met and divided their tasks. He would handle everything at the hospital, while she would be moving the body to the funeral home.

Before they parted, Joseph suddenly asked, “Ms. Lowell, this is probably a pointless question, but I was wondering if you had some kind of deal with Mona?”

“Why are you helping me?” Cora countered.

“I’m only helping because Yara was involved in Mona’s accident. She’s given me an ultimatum, and I had to prove my loyalty to her. If I can do that, she’ll trust me even more. That’s the reason why I’ve agreed to work with you,” Joseph replied.

“You’d really risk everything for the woman you love, huh? Dr. Jebb, you’re such a loyal guy! Well then, I’ll be honest with you. Mona knew some secrets about Evercrest Industrial. I’m going to use that information to make a little money off them,” Cora revealed.

“A little money? I suppose that means tens of billions to you, Ms. Lowell,” he teased.

“Not that much. It’s just under a billion dollars or so. But that’s only if Mona wakes up and tells me everything she knows. Everything has to fall into place for the plan to work. We can try our best, but the rest is up to fate. Dr. Jebb, it’s all up to you now,” she said.

Joseph wasn’t surprised. Cora wouldn’t save Mona unless there was something in it for her. He had nothing else to say. After they parted, he headed back to his department.

Mona wasn’t part of the Zahn family. With most of the department’s manpower and resources allocated to the Zahns, they were already stretched thin.

The Zahn siblings, Luke Zahn and Reuben Zahn, were all being treated here. As they were important members of the Zahn family, the department couldn’t afford to neglect any of them. Naturally, the best medical staff were assigned to treat them.

On top of that, Bruce, Charlie, and even Michael, who had been transferred from Jenton General Hospital, were also consuming the hospital’s already limited resources. Someone unimportant like Mona was practically left unattended.

Joseph had to find a way to fake Mona’s death without actually letting her die. After weighing his options, he decided to call Reuben’s student, Toby Dunne, and inform him that Mona had passed away.

Toby was quite shocked. He couldn’t come over as he was tied up with an event, so he sent one of his colleagues to check on Mona instead.

Toby’s colleague came over and checked her vitals. The monitor showed a flatline, and after inspecting her breath and pulse, he concluded that Mona was dead. He then instructed Joseph to issue the death certificate and handle the body.

As far as anyone was concerned, Mona was just another dead body now.

Joseph grew even bolder because of that. He didn’t bother removing her tubes. Whatever could be moved, he brought it along with her.

Cora’s men had arrived as well. They loaded the body into a modified hearse equipped with cardiac monitors and other medical equipment. Everything went smoothly, but among those present was Katie.

Katie didn’t recognize Joseph in his current guise, but he knew who she was immediately. Though surprised, it didn’t take long for Joseph to figure out what Cora was trying to do. She was trying to lure him out.

Cora knew Joseph was in Jenton, and with such a critically ill patient, she was betting he would step in to help. And the only people who could inform him were those close to him, like Katie.

Everything had somehow fallen into place. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have known how to save Mona without Cora noticing. He kept quiet and left, trusting that Katie and the others would keep Mona’s condition stable until he showed up.
