Chapter 220
So in the end, all Jennifer wanted was moricy. It seemed that the most practical, unbreakable bond between a husband and wife in high society was built on a ledger after all. Love was entirely optional, but cash was non-negotiable.
Joseph was filled with disdain for Jennifer, but he said nothing more.
Not long after Jennifer left, a wave of Warren’s other family members arrived, including his brothers and various distant relatives. They barraged Joseph with the exact same questions about why Warren hadn’t woken up and when he might regain consciousness. Joseph merely repeated the same medical script he had given before.
Warren’s eldest brother suggested transferring him to another hospital, and Joseph readily agreed. However, Jennifer immediately shut it down, flatly insisting that Warren remain right here at Jenton University Hospital.
Later that evening, a knock sounded at his office door, and a beautiful woman stepped inside. She asked about Warren’s condition. When Joseph initially tried to turn her away, she confessed to being Warren’s mistress.
Joseph didn’t believe her and asked for proof. So, the woman produced photographs of herself and Warren celebrating a child’s birthday together and said the child was Warren’s son, Charles.
So she was the one from Sky Palace…
Joseph gave her a once-over again. She carried herself with quiet elegance. If she weren’t Warren’s mistress, she could very well have worked in education or a similar profession. Joseph pulled up Warren’s medical file and basically recited everything word for word.
When he was done, the woman made no move to leave, so he asked, “Do you have any other questions?”
The woman hesitated for a moment before saying, “I need to get hold of his phone. There’s a very important message on it.”
Joseph shrugged. “It’s not with me.”
Joseph urged her to get to the point.
She said, “He uses an old-fashioned phone with no camera. He’s obsessed with antiques and hates modern technology, so I doubt he has any photos of himself with women. He once said that someone got to Cora before him. When he said it, he sounded bitter and regretful.”
Joseph frowned. “Someone else beat him to her? What else did he say?”
Rage and humiliation surged up from deep inside him. For a moment, he had the impulse to rush home and kill Cora, but he quickly suppressed the thought.
He already guessed that Cora had more than one lover. Natalie and the others weren’t Warren’s children. If that was true, then perhaps Warren had seen Cora with another man.
The more Joseph thought about it, the more of a fool he felt like. If Cora had been cheating for years, he should have seen the signs years ago. Cora couldn’t have fooled around for that many years without leaving a trail; someone was bound to have seen her.
