Who's the One Regretting Now? novel Chapter 95

May, Ed knows that he was wrong. He’s been looking for you these past few days,Yosef said.

He continued, I’ll get someone to deal with Sharon. Can you please forgive him just this once? Give him

another chance.

Ed has fallen for you, though he didn’t realize it until now. He just told me that he didn’t want the divorce, and

he even cried. I promise that he’ll be a good husband to you from here on out.

On the other end of the line, Macie’s expression remained cold and unaffected by his words. She should’ve known better than to think that Yosef could resolve the divorce issue. She shouldn’t have even picked up the

call.

Now, it seemed that Yosef was even pleading on Edward’s behalf.

Pigs flying, the world ending, or the sun rising in the westany of those seemed more believable than Edward

suddenly turning over a new leaf.

Mr. Fowler Senior, you’re asking me to give him another chance. But can I ask you to give me a chance to live?

Macie asked.

On the other end of the line, Yosef froze and was confused by her words.

She continued, Have you ever seen blisters the size of a fist? I couldn’t even walk without feeling like I was

stepping on knives.

Or a fractured tailbone? I spent half a month in the hospital and couldn’t sleep because of the pain.

And then there was the gas poisoning. The doctors said if I had been brought in just two or three minutes later,

I would have gone into shock and died.

She spoke in a flat, emotionless tone.

Macie concluded, Please let me go. The twoyear contract is over. I don’t want to die. I just want to live.1

On the other end of the line, Yosef was stunned into silence. His eyes widened in shock, and he struggled to find

the words.

YouAre you telling me the truth? His voice trembled.

Of course. I have the hospital records, and the scars on my body prove it,she said.

She added, For two years, I faced nothing but emotional abuse, insults, and humiliation. I was treated like a

nanny or a housekeeper and never was once respected as an equal.

So, please don’t make me go through that again. Even if I made a mistake, I don’t deserve this.

Macie’s voice cracked as she spoke, and the pain of the past two years weighed on her. She couldn’t help but feel

the bitterness of all the unfairness she had to endure.

After getting everything off her chest, she hung up the phone, took a deep breath to steady herself, and got

ready to head to work.

At the Fowler residence, Yosef sat frozen on the couch. His face showed the blankness of someone still trying to

process the shock.

He thought, Oh my GodWhat had Macie been through these past two years? How had I not known?

Edward had hurt Macie so deeply and nearly killed her. Yosef questioned the kind of monster his grandson had

become.

She hadn’t told him the truth before out of respect. But now, how could he possibly defend his grandson after all that had happened?

Yosef’s expression was a mix of heartbreak, regret, and fury. He turned to Nolan and barked, “Call Edward!

Nolan was already dialing when Yosef suddenly changed his mind.

No. He’ll just make excuses. Call his assistant, Nathan.

Nolan then dialed another number.

When Nathan answered, Yosef took a deep breath and spoke in a low, serious tone. I know that you’re in the

car with Edward right now. All you have to do is hum, but don’t tell him.

On the other end, Nathan sensed the gravity of the situation. He glanced at Edward in the backseat and quietly hummed in response.

At first, he wondered about what Yosef wanted to ask him. But when he heard that it was about Macie, Nathan

responded with a heavy Mmm.
