Who's the One Regretting Now? novel Chapter 97

Chapter 97

In the passenger seat, Nathan heard Edward sobbing and shouting,

Frowning, Nathan sighed inwardly. If Edward knew that it would come to this, why had he been so sure of himself before?

Just days ago, Nathan had warned him to be honest with himself, but Edward had insisted he’d never regret his choices.

No matter how much Edward begged or cried at the Fowler residence, Yosef refused to waver. Any thoughts of reconciling Edward and Macie had been completely snuffed out.

The call was ruthlessly ended. Before hanging up, Yosef left him with only one cold remark. You’re not good enough for May.1

In the backseat, Edward redialed the number, but his grandfather refused to answer the call. It was only then that Edward’s heart truly shattered, and regret crashed over him in waves.

The man who was always so stoic and composed now broke down in anguish. His cries were raw and desperate, like a lost puppy abandoned on the side of the road. He clutched his head and was unable to hold back his tears.

In the heart of the city’s bustling business district, Macie stepped out of the cab. She tilted her head back to take in the towering skyscraper where Julian’s company occupied the entire 12th floor.

As she walked forward, she let the moment sink in. This was the start of a new chapter. From that day, she was officially part of the workforce.

A message popped up on her phone. While waiting for the elevator, she pulled it out and saw Julian’s text. He asked her where she was.

Macie replied that she was in the lobby. It was rush hour, so she needed to wait a bit for the elevator, but she had factored in extra time before the interview. A slight delay wouldn’t be an issue.

Julian responded with a simple Okay.

Macie locked her phone and waited.

Three minutes later, a clear voice sounded behind her.

She instinctively turned around. Julian?she said, surprised.

Over here. This way’s faster.

He waved at her, his smile warm.

Without hesitation, Macie walked toward Julian.

The crowd waiting for the elevator glanced over. They noticed a handsome guy standing by the entrance to the

private elevatorthe one reserved for company executives and upper management with an access card.

The crowd couldn’t help but envy the woman he’d called over.

Mr. Atkins? Is that really him?someone whispered as the private elevator doors slid shut.

Who’s the woman he just came down to meet? From behind, she looks pretty young.

I think I heard him call her name, but I didn’t catch it. She’s definitely not an employee. She’s probably a

business partner or something.

Speculation buzzed among the employees.

Inside the private elevator, Macie glanced at Julian. Why’d you come down to get me? I could’ve just gone up

by myself.

The public elevator is packed, and it would’ve taken forever. I’ll have them issue you an access card so you can

use this one from now on,he said.

It sounds like there are some conditions attached to that. I don’t want any special treatment. The public one’s

fine,Macie said.

She hadn’t worked in an office before, but after seeing Julian swipe his access card, she could tell that this

elevator was reserved for executives.

Julian smiled. It’s not special treatment. You’re a shareholder. It’s one of your perks.

She understood his explanation and didn’t refuse anymore.
